Sequels dominate the list of 5 best fantasy movies 2008. Most of the films are based on fantasy novels and comic magazine characters. This means that these fantasy movies had a built-in fan base before they were even produced. This approach to fantasy movie making seems to go a long way toward ensuring profitability. An animated film also made the list. Animation seems to be the other technique that enhances a fantasy movie's chances of success.

  1. Hellboy II: The Golden Army.” In this fantasy movie sequel, Hellboy and his team must stop a malicious elf from releasing the Golden Army so that it can attack and destroy humanity. Ron Perlman plays the comic book hero in the best fantasy movie of 2008. Critics and audiences alike felt that this movie was even better than the original film, a surprise hit itself.

  2. “The Dark Knight.” Thanks to Batman, the police, and the DA, the crime rate in Gotham is going down rapidly. That is, until an insane criminal mastermind who calls himself “the Joker” appears on the scene. Christian Bale stars in this fantasy movie sequel which furthers the onscreen legend of one of the comic world's most beloved heroes. Heath Ledger, who played the Joker, tragically died shortly before the film was released. This picture made over one billion dollars in worldwide box office receipts.

  3. “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” This fantasy movie from 2008 is another sequel. The Pevensie children go back to Narnia and discover that hundreds of years have passed since their last visit. An evil ruler is on the throne, so they must help Prince Caspian battle for his kingdom. Ben Barnes and Georgie Henley star in this exciting fantasy, which has more action than the first film did.

  4. “The Spiderwick Chronicles.” In this fantasy movie, three kids and their mom move into a rundown old house. Soon things start to disappear and unexplained accidents occur. One of the children discovers that the house is a gateway to a magical universe of goblins, ogres, fairies, and other mythical creatures. Some of these creatures, who aren't nice to say the least, begin to attack the house and family. Freddie Highmore stars, playing a dual role as twin brothers. This fantasy movie was adapted from a popular novel series, and is one of the best movies from 2008 for both kids and adults.

  5. “Wall-E.” In the far future, humanity has left Earth because it has been completely overrun with garbage. Only a robot and his pet cockroach are left behind to clean up the mess. One day, a female robot is sent by humans to see if the earth is habitable again. Our hero falls in love. This animated fantasy movie from Pixar was a runaway hit with both audiences and critics alike. The film stars the voices of Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, and Sigourney Weaver.
