The list of the 10 best Bollywood movies with English subtitles includes some of the best films to ever come out of the massive Indian movie industry. As the population of Indian-Americans increases and Americans develop more of an interest in foreign films, demand for these movies increases. Filled with song and dance numbers and lavish sets, Bollywood movies quickly develop a following in any country.

  1. “Sholay” Definitely one of the best Bollywood movies with English subtitles, this is considered one of the all-time Indian classics starring four of its most iconic stars. Made in the 1970s, the film remains enormously popular today.
  2. “Chak De! India” This light and sweet film is one of the best Bollywood movies with English subtitles. A disgraced field hockey player turns to coaching and takes over a team of misfits. He leads then, of course, to victory.
  3. “3 Idiots” This film is the highest-grossing Bollywood movie ever and is one of the best Bollywood movies with English subtitles. Tthe film follows the exploits of three engineering students. The movie won the Filmfare Award for Best Picture.
  4. “Mother India” Made in the 1950s, this film is considered one of the greatest Indian films ever made. It was India’s first movie nominated for the American Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film and won five Indian Filmfare Awards.
  5. “Om Shanti Om” Certainly one of the best Bollywood movies with English subtitles, this mega-hit stars uber-celebrity Shahrukh Khan and sexy starlet Deepika Padukone. Playing a man reincarnated, Khan’s character tries to solve a murder that happened in his past life.

  8. “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” This film ran for over 700 weeks in Mumbai theaters and stars Shahrukh Khan opposite Kajol. This film is about two young British Indians who are involved in a relationship that their parents do not condone.
  9. “My Name is Khan” Shahrukh Khan appears on this list again, this time as a man suffering from Asperger’s syndrome who leaves India for the United States after the death of his mother. The movie was nominated for ten Filmfare Awards.
  10. “Bobby” Directed by legend Raj Kapoor, this film is one of the best Bollywood movies with English subtitles, setting a new tone for Indian movies with its theme of forbidden romance. It won five Filmfare Awards.
