10 Best Action Hindi Movies
Here is a list of the 10 best action Hindi movies. In the world of cinema, the Indian film industry (Bollywood) has been gathering a huge following all over the world and has carved itself a niche in the history of movies. While Hindi films are mostly known for their spectacular dance numbers and rapturous music, they are also rich motion pictures that explore other genres within the structured confines of a musical. Among the most celebrated of Hindi films is none other than the old-fashioned action flick. Here are the 10 best.
"Alluda Mazaaka" This is a 1995 film that brought about much controversy in regards to its subject matter. Indeed, the film can most certainly be viewed as extreme in comparison to the more gentler films of India, but that doesn't mean it isn't one sucker punch of an action flick.
"Magadheera" This is a film with some surreal subject matter. There are flourishes of reincarnation and previous lives, but it definitely delivers in terms of action and thrills. Also, it is a winner of numerous Filmfare Awards: India's answer to the Oscars.
"Shalimar" Although, it didn't do well at the Indian box office, this story of a thief on the run from the police will not disappoint. As a bonus, look for English actor Rex Harrison, and "Enter the Dragon" alumni, John Saxon.
"Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi" You want action, here is action. Indian superstar Akshay Kumar is someone who is gaining momentum as a kind of Indian Sylvester Stallone and Jackie Chan combined. With his brawn and martial arts skill, he lives up to that hyperbole as evidenced in this 1996 action hit. As a bonus, look for WWE wrestler Brian Lee.
"Mohra" One of India's biggest hits of the 1990's, this film borrows heavily from some of the great American action flicks of the 1970's. In particular, "Mohra" owes a great debt to the now legendary Charles Bronson vehicle "Death Wish" with strong parallels in story. Need I say more?
"Jigar" Another film with strong similarities to "Death Wish," this movie is a bit less refined, but it does not deny what it means to be, and that is a non-stop action-revenge machine.
"Ghatak: Lethal" The story of an ex-wrestler who comes back to his hometown to discover it has bee taken over by a vicious gangster and his cronies. With the help of some fellow villagers, the hero rises up in a rebellion to beat the bad guys. Do we have to go any further?
"Shaan" Regarded as something of a classic of Indian Cinema, "Shaan" borrows elements from the James Bond movie franchise. With cool sets, amazing costumes, and blistering action (with a juicy villain to boot), this one cannot be missed.
"Kaante" It's no secret that Indian cinema plays shameless homage to great movies from all over the world. However, when you steal from the likes of Quentin Tarantino, John Woo, and Michael Mann, it's hard to make a movie that misses. This is precisely why "Kaante" is pure awesomeness.
"Sholay" Perhaps the most successful and most famous of all Hindi films, "Sholay" is a movie that needs to be on any list of the best action movies. Borrowing heavily from Spaghetti Westerns, with epic cinematography, featuring some pretty high-octane action set-pieces, and starring the biggest star in Indian movies (Amitabh Bachaan), "Shaan" could be an entire list all by itself.
