Independent foreign films are generally some of the best forms of entertainment you can watch. That's because foreign independent films are usually very thought-provoking and there is a lot of attention to details in the movie. Many foreign films contain very interesting subjects that may be lacking in American film entertainment. Here are some of the best independent foreign films for those of you that enjoy that form of entertainment.

  1. "Once" "Once" is an Irish film about a local musician and forests. Local musicians meet each other, work on a project together and begin to fall in love. Written by John Carney, this movie won an Oscar and is a charming film set in Ireland with all of the quirks that go along with the culture. This is a great date movie that is very thought-provoking.
  2. “Amelie” This is one of the best independent foreign films in French. Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, it is probably one of the most charming independent foreign films that's ever been made. It has a comedic life look at a girl and her friends during a period of upset in France. There are moments that are a little dark, but it is generally a very fun and very lighthearted movie. If you have a quirky way of looking at the world, then this is going to really entertain you.
  3. "Blame It on Fidel” This is a thought-provoking French independent foreign film worth catching. It describes what a Parisian family goes through during political evolution. The movie is written from the point of view of a nine-year-old little girl, the main character named Anna. Directed by Julie Gavras, it is probably one of the most charming films of its type.
  4. “Moliere" This classic tale is one of the excellent independent foreign films that will make you think about life. The film, by Preston Sturges' Sullivan is French and depicts the unpublished part of Moliere's life and relationships. It makes you think about the meaning of life and the ways in which people reach that place through life experience.
  5. "I Am Love" This thought-provoking Italian film that is the best of the foreign independent foreign films to date. It is epic and gorgeous. Emma Recchi is the matriarch of a family that is extremely rich and proper. Emma Recchi, however, goes through a transformation and becomes a completely different person by the end of the film. It will leave you stunned and impressed.
