2012 SJ Movie Awards: Best Production Houses

Movies take a lot of work to make happen, and now is as good a time as any to recognize some of the lesser-known names behind the camera that made some of the best movies of 2011 happen. Here are the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/2012-728/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>2012</a> <span data-scayt_word=SJ Movie Awards for Best Production Houses.

Odd Lot Entertainment

<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/drive' target='_blank'>drive</a> gosling.jpg” src=”http://media1.break.com/breakstudios/2011/11/17/drive gosling.jpg” /></p> <p> One of the studios involved in the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/film/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>film</a> "Drive," the people at Odd Lot have a "lot" (sorry) to be proud of for their work in 2011 for that film alone, which surely qualifies as one of the best of 2011. Founded by Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Prete in <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/2001/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>2001</a> in Culver City, CA, Odd Lot has had a hand in movies like "The Spirit" and "Green Street," but "Drive" certainly qualifies as the jewel in their crown.</p> <p> <a rel='nofollow' href=Mimran Schur Pictures 

<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/nick-nolte-52/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>nick nolte</a> warrior.jpg” src=”http://media1.break.com/breakstudios/2011/12/29/nick nolte warrior.jpg” /></p> <p> Another underrated film to come from 2011 is the mixed martial arts drama "Warrior" starring <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/tom-hardy-293/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Tom Hardy</a> and <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/joel-edgerton-366/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Joel Edgerton</a>. And the primary production <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/house-858/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>house</a> for bringing this excellent movie to the big screen is the Santa Monica-based Mimran Schur, founded pretty recently in <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/2009-636/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>2009</a> by Jordan Schur and David J. Mimran with the stated goal of "producing exceptional <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/films-2/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>films</a> spanning all genres." They certainly took a step in that direction with "Warrior."</p> <p> <a rel='nofollow' href=See-Saw Films

Releasing a movie like 2011's "Shame" takes a lot of courage, not just on the part of the artists but the production houses involved in it as well. So See-Saw Films, one of the studios involved in producing "Shame," definitely deserves an SJ Award. Based out of both London, England and Sydney, Australia, See-Saw was founded in 2008 by Emile Sherman and Iain Canning, and is well on its way to the "big time," but hopefully that won't mean the end of daring independent films like "Shame."

Forward Films 

One of the most blistering and tense film experiences of 2011 (or any other year), "We Need To Talk About Kevin" is an unforgettable masterpiece. One of the production houses who made it possible was the UK outfit Forward Films, founded by film producers Tracy Brimm and Kate Myers. Hopefully they will continue to do excellent work in 2012 and beyond.
