As soon as horror movies started coming out, the list of top 10 funny horror movies was started as well. You may not recognize many of the titles in the list of the top 10 funny horror movies of all time, but you should spend some time becoming acquainted with them.

  1. "Young Frankenstein" (1974) – Mel Brooks knew how to make a great comedy. When he decided to tackle a horror spoof he wound up with one of the top 10 funny horror movies of all time. There are several classic scenes from this movie that help to make this one of the greatest comedies ever made.
  2. "Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948) – The comedy team of Abbot and Costello cashed in on the movie monster craze with a couple of entries on the list of the top 10 funny horror movies of all time. This one wound up bringing together Dracula (Bela Lugosi), the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney, Jr.) and Frankenstein (Glenn Strange).
  3. "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" (1955) – These Abbott and Costello monster movies were so cliche they became funny. This one starts off slow, but once it gets going it is extremely funny.
  4. "Scary Movie" (2000) – "Scary Movie" (2000) is a parody of all of the strange horror movies that seemed to be coming out around that time. This one contains some classic comedy scenes with the killer from the movie "Scream" (1996) and the many different masks used to create facial expressions.
  5. "Scary Movie 4" (2006) – By the time "Scary Movie 4" (2006) came out, the Wayan brothers (the comedic minds behind these movies) had opened up to more than just horror movies. This movie contains elements from "Signs" (2002), "8 Mile" (2002) and "Brokeback Mountain" (2005) just to name a few.
  6. "The Man With Two Brains" (1983) – This movie looks like it was written specifically as a vehicle for Steve Martin to just go crazy. It is a member of the top 10 funny horror movies of all time because of Martin's performance and the extremely strange plot.
  7. "Shaun of the Dead" (2004) – Mix dry British humor with the American fascination with zombies and you get one of the top 10 funny horror movies of all time. There is more American jokes than British jokes in this movie, but it is the British delivery of the humor that makes it funny.
  8. "Tremors" (1990) – This movie is a combination of horror and comedy that works so well that it has become a cult classic. It spawned several sequels and remains one of the top 10 funny horror movies of all time.
  9. "Gremlins" (1984) – What could be more effective than a comedy that is so funny that you forget that the cute little main characters are killing people? The balance between horror and comedy in "Gremlins" (1984) is often overshadowed by the cute little Gizmo character, but these little guys are deadly.
  10. "Zombieland" (2009) – Even as the zombie action starts to pick up in "Zombieland" (2009), the comedy is never lost. Even Bill Murray makes a short, but effective, appearance before he is blown away.
