10 Classic Horror Movies

If you love horror movies you may want to learn about 10 classic horror movies because sometime the classics can be better than more current horror movies. Here is a list of 10 classic horror movies that you may not have seen yet. Hopefully you find something new and exciting to watch in the horror genre.

  1. "Rosemary's Baby" (1968) This film is definitely a classic horror movie that depicts a woman who is raped by Satan in order to have his son. Some of the lingo is a little outdated but the film is still one of the best horror movies out there. It stars Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes and was directed by Roman Polanski.
  2. "Psycho" (1960) You can't include a classic horror movies list without including one of the first groundbreaking movies in the genre. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, this movie is based on a real serial killer and was one of the first movies to focus on multiple personalities. The shower scene with Janet Lee is infamous and stands the test of time.
  3. "The Exorcist" (1973) even though this movie is decades old, it stands as one of the scariest movies of all time and most of the time is still considered the scariest ever. It starred Linda Blair as a young girl possessed by Satan and was based on a novel by William Peter Blatty.
  4. "Carrie" (1976) Based on a book be the master of horror Stephen King, "Carrie" tells the story of a young girl with a special powers of telekinesis. Her mother is overly religious, the kids at school pick on her and finally one day she snaps, with horrific consequences.
  5. "The Shining" (1980) Another film based on a Stephen King book, this tells the tale of a man that loses his mind in a haunted hotel that he is caretaking for the winter. It was directed by Stanley Kubrick and stars Jack Nicholson. It has excellent scenery and is one of the truly scarier horror movies made.
  6. "Jaws" (1975) This is a movie directed by Steven Spielberg and made everyone afraid to go into the water. Although it may be what some may not consider truly horror, it is in the horror movie genre and what is more scary than a killer shark?
  7. "The Omen" (1976) Starring Gregory Peck, this 1976 movie is one of the best classic horror movies depicting the Antichrist in the form of a young boy named Damien. It spawned many sequels but still stands as being the best of its franchise.
  8. "Night of the Living Dead" (1968) This movie is one of the first ever movies to focus on zombies. It was directed by George Romero and since its debut there have been numerous copies such as "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead."
  9. "Nosferatu" (1929) This is a silent film that was one of the first, if not the first horror movie ever known. Even with no sound, this movie is incredibly frightening.
  10. "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974) This was an independent film directed by Tobe Hooper about a family of cannibals that prey on a group of teens traveling in their area of Texas. It is one of the more iconic films of its kind.
