10 Best French Movies 2007

  2. "The Diving Bell and Butterfly." Another French biographical film, this movie tells the true story of an Elle editor who is paralyzed after a stroke. The movie was nominated for four Oscars, including Best Cinematography, Editing, Directing, and Writing.
  3. "99 Francs." This comedic drama, based on a novel, explores the lives of characters struggling with drug abuse and depression. The male lead, Jocelyn Quivrin, received several nominations for this breakout role.
  4. "Inside." In this French horror movie, a pregnant mother is tormented by a strange woman after the death of her husband. It won the Grand Prize of European Fantasy Film in Silver at the Catalonian International Film Festival, and was also nominated for Best Film.
  5. "Ensemble, C'est Tout." Starring Audrey Tautou of "Amelie" fame, this best French movie of 2007 is a romantic comedy about an office cleaning woman. It was nominated for Best Film at the European Film Awards, and male lead Guillaume Canet received several accolades for his performance.
  6. "Eden Log." In this horrifying French thriller, a man wakes up in a cave with a dead body with no recollection of how he got there. Its exciting, unique plot make it one of the best French movies of 2007.
  7. "Frontier(s)." Rated NC-17 for its shocking violence and gore, this French horror film is the story of a group of young thieves who are captured by neo-Nazis. The controversial movie was nominated for Best Film at the Catalonian International Film Festival. 
  8. "Caramel." This romantic comedy, one of the best French movies of 2007, tells the story of the love lives of five women living in Beirut. It received many award nominations and wins, including Best Motion Picture, Foreign Language Film at the Satellite Awards.
  9. "Two Days in Paris." This romantic comedy was directed and written by Julie Delpy, best known in the United States for her role in "Before Sunset," who also stars. It was recognized as one of the best French movies of 2007 at the European Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Audience Award for Best Film, and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Film.
  10.  "Hitman." This American-style action movie, starring Timothy Olyphant, was directed by Xavier Gens. The exciting thrill-ride tells the story of a hitman trapped in a political conspiracy.
