10 Most-Recommended Family Movies

If you are looking for a movie to watch during movie night, then you are definitely going to want to try one of the 10 most recommended family movies, each of which are excellent ways to spend a relaxing evening with the family.

  1. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" This first installment in the classic series about the adolescent wizard and his attempts to stop the Dark Lord Voldemort combines the epic spirit of the series with the family-friendly creative talent of director Chris Columbus. If you’re a fan of magic and youthful adventure, then this is the film for you.
  2. "The Last Unicorn" This animated classic, produced by the famous Rankin Bass Company, is about a unicorn who, dismayed at the disappearance of others of her kind, sets out on a quest to rescue them from the clutches of the evil King Haggard. Featuring an all-start voice cast including Mia Farrow, Angela Lansbury, Jeff Bridges, and Christopher Lee, this is a highly recommended family film.

"Aladdin" Although Disney was known for producing numerous highly recommended family films, this one is definitely one of the best, as it tells the rousing story of a young man’s quest to win the heart of his love and defeat the villainous sorcerer Jafar. With its delightful mix of classic Disney animation and the hilarious antics of Robin Williams, this is one family film that you should definitely watch.
  4. "Babe" This adorable tale, which tells the story of a little pig’s quest to become a sheepdog, is truly one of the most heartwarming family films made in the last twenty years.  This film is sure to provide hours of enjoyment for every member of the family, no matter how old they are.
  5. "Toy Story" This Pixar film was the company’s first, and set the bar high for subsequent films from the famous studio.  Featuring an astounding mix of voice talents, including the very talented Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, this is a highly recommended family film that makes a great addition to any family movie night.
  6. "Shrek" Everyone has fallen in love with the delightful antics of the green ogre of this now-classic film, which has spawned a number of successful features.  With its deft mixing of genres, including fantasy, romance, and comedy, this is a family film that will have everyone laughing and crying by the end.

"Finding Nemo" This film, another classic from Pixar, tells the story of a father fish’s attempts to rescue his son from the clutches of a well-meaning dentist.  Ellen DeGeneres has a great role in this film as an absent-minded fish, and everyone in the family will find themselves laughing along with this splendid family film.

"Enchanted" This production from Disney, which is an homage to the era of classic Disney animation, is a live-action film about a princess transported from a magical kingdom into our own world.  With the presence of Susan Sarandon as an evil queen figure, you can’t go wrong in watching this recommended family film.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" This film, which stars box office heavyweights Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, is a rollicking adventure in the tradition of earlier Disney films. It features an excellent blend of quirky humor and high-spirited adventures, and has since spawned several sequels, including one that is soon to be released.

"Ice Age" If you want to get a glimpse into the fictional prehistoric past, then look no further than this hilariously funny family film, which features the voices of Ray Romano, Dennis Leary, and John Leguizamo. It tells the story of a group of animals that attempt to return a human baby to his family, all the while dealing with their own internal problems and rivalries.  You may also want to watch any of the several sequels to the film, one of which is currently in production.
