Monday, February 7 by Thomas West

2010 was certainly a good year for PG-rated films, with everyone from Fox to Disney churning out some excellent films that are good for every members of the family, from the youngest to the oldest.

  1. "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" This third installment in the popular “Chronicles of Narnia” franchise follows the adventures of three children as they seek to defeat an evil plaguing the land of Narnia.  Both touching and epic, this film has a little bit of something for everyone.
  2. "Alice in Wonderland" This delightfully zany interpretation of the classic novel was directed by Tim Burton, and you can see his touch in every scene and storyline.  With its spectacular cast (which includes Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp), this is one PG film of 2010 that you won’t want to miss.
  3. "Tangled" This latest feature film from Disney brings some of that old Disney magic to the screen with a fanciful and gorgeous retelling of the classic tale of Rapunzel.  With a wonderfully quirky cast of characters and a soundtrack that could only be produced by Disney, this is one PG-rated film that you won’t want to miss.
  4. "How to Train Your Dragon" 2010 was definitely a good year for cartoons, and this film is no exception. With dazzling animation and a storyline that’s incredibly appealing, you’re guaranteed to be satisfied with this charming little cartoon.
  5. "Letters to Juliet" Although this film hasn’t received quite as much attention as some of the others released in 2010, it is nevertheless a quaint and comfortable romantic movie, perfect for date night.  Furthermore, it has the inimitable Vanessa Redgrave as one of its main characters, which definitely boosts its prestige.
  6. "Shrek Forever After" This fourth (and perhaps final) installment in the “Shrek” franchise is a delightful romp through the fairy tale land that has made the ogre famous.  With its combination of humor and simple good story-telling, this is one animated film that definitely stood out in 2010.
  7. "Despicable Me" This animated film, starring the spectacularly funny voice talent of Steve Carell, is one of those animated movies that just hits all the right notes.  With its adorable minions as a side attraction, there’s everything to enjoy about this film.
  8. "Nanny McPhee Returns" Reprising her role from the original “Nanny McPhee” Emma Thompson once again works her magic as Nanny McPhee, the ugly Mary Poppins.  With its magical plot, this film is sure to please all members of the family.
  9. "You Again" Although this film has been written off by critics, it is still one of the best 2010 PG films, if only because it has such decidedly delicious leading ladies as Betty White (who can resist her?) and Sigourney Weaver. Watch this film is you want to see a bit of female rivalry.
  10. "Secretariat" This charming little film, produced by Walt Disney, is an inspirational tale of success in the face of adversity and tells the moving story behind one of the most famous horseraces of modern times.

“I am not sure how I would go about making such a list, or if I would have included the same films. I even doubt that I would have put Dawn Treader at the head of the list. But it is gratifying as one who enjoyed the movie, and who has supported it in print, that ScreenJunkies.com recognizes it as the quality film it is.” http://live.hollywoodjesus.com/?p=7121
