The 80’s was a special time of innocents and big hair that was captured in the 10 best 80’s teen movies. Music and dancing was King in many of the most memorable 80’s teen movies in films like “Footloose” and “Dirty Dancing”.
“Karate Kid” 1984. Endearing movie about personal growth starring Ralph Macchio as Daniel Larusso who moves from to California with his mother and becomes the target of bullies in his new school until Japanese maintenance man Kesuke Miyagi (Pat Morita) teaches him Karate to defend himself. Exciting Karate competition.
“Breakfast Club” 1985. Starring the Hollywood Brat Pack including Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy. Fiv high school students share a day of detention and explore their differences and similarities. Insightful script.
“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” 1986. Confident and smooth wise guy Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) takes a day off from high school and drags his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) and girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) along for a fun filled ride. Jennifer Grey plays the evil older sister Jeanie Bueller.
“Fast Times at Ridgemont High” 1982. Classic 80’s teen movie with an all star cast about a group of California high school students and their adventures. The central character is the stoner surfer dude, Jeff Spicoli played by Sean Penn, at his best. Lots of teen fun.
“Back to the Future” 1985. Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) creates a time machine from a DeLorean and Marty (Michael J. Fox) becomes the unwitting time traveler who must fix the past to restore the future. Hysterically funny performance by Lloyd as the nutty inventor.
“Footloose” 1984. Big city high school boy Ren McCormack (Kevin Bacon) moves to a small town and can’t maneuver the small town attitude and restrictions. Supporting cast of Lori Singer as Ariel, John Lithgow as the Reverend Shaw Moore, and Chris Penn as Williard Hewitt. Great 80’s music and dancing.
“Dirty Dancing” 1987. Patrick Swayze uses his dancing talent as street wise resort dance teacher Johnny Castle with dancing partner Francis “Baby” Houseman (Jennifer Grey) in this blockbuster Oscar winning movie about young love.
“Sixteen Candles” 1984. Molly Ringwald stars as high school teen Samantha Baker who has a crush on the popular boy in school Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling). Anthony Michael Hall plays the Geek who has a crush on Samantha. Great cast and a good look at teen life in the 80’s.
“Pretty in Pink” 1986. Molly Ringwald stars as Andie Walsh who struggles to survive attitudes of the rich kids and the not rich kids in high school when she dates rich kid Blane (Andrew McCarthy) and his friends reject her while her friends reject him. Supporting cast includes James Spader, Jon Cryer, and Annie Potts.
“Adventures in Babysitting” 1987. Starring Elisabeth Shue as Chris Parker who baby sits three kids and prepares herself for a boring night of watching television until friend Brenda (Penelope Ann Miller) begs to be picked up from the bus station and the adventure begins.
