V For Vendetta Quotes

Sunday, May 1 by Rochelle Connery

If you love the movie, “V for Vendetta,” then you’re sure to love the best “V for Vendetta” quotes that come straight from the film. Starring the lovely Natalie Portman as Evey and Hugo Weaving of “The Matrix” fame as “V” himself, there’s plenty of witty banter and wise quotes to go around.

  1. “Remember, remember the Fifth of November, the gunpowder, treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.” V quotes this famous Guy Fawkes poem right before he blows up a British statue.
  2. “Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.” V spews every “V” word in the alphabet prior to this quote, and baffles Evey with its tongue-twistedness. He basically ended it with an unapologetic apology.
  3. “I, like God, do not play with dice, and I don’t believe in coincidences.” V says this “V for Vendetta” quote to Evey after she tells him that her name is “Evey.” He of course realizes the similarity to his own letter and states that it couldn’t be a coincidence.
  4. “We call it ‘eggie in a basket.’” After Evey spends the night at Gordon Deitrich’s house, he makes her the same exact meal for breakfast that V made her when he took her home to his underground abode.
  5. “Violence can be used for good.” Another “V for Vendetta” quote starting with the letter V, V explains to Evey the difference between good violence and bad violence. He quips that his killing a corrupt British personality was at justified as when he killed Evey’s attacker a few nights previous.
  6. Tell me… do you like music?” V firsts asks this question of Evey at the beginning of the film, and Evey in turn asks it of the investigator, Mr. Finch. They each play Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” and blow up a British building shortly thereafter on each account.
  7. “You’re sick! You’re evil!” Evey screams this “V for Vendetta” quote at V after she learns he was the one who tormented her – for her own good – in the basement of his hideout. She was most incensed that he shaved off her hair.
  8. “The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain.” When V meets Evey, he explains his mission in a nutshell, to which she responds by asking if he is a crazy person.
  9. “We threw out the censor-approved script and shot a new one that I wrote this morning.” Gordon Deitrich, the TV show host, watches the politically-incorrect show as it airs on TV and quips to Evey about how he changed the script for humor and taking stabs at the country’s leader.
  10. “A fake ID works better than a Guy Fawkes mask.” Evey tells V how she survives in the world after being presumed dead. She explains that her fake ID helps her make it around and even help her avoid recognition by her best friend.
