If you’re looking for a good romantic film to watch with your wife or girlfriend, you can’t go wrong with these Nicholas Sparks movies. They are heartfelt, bittersweet romantic dramas that even guys might secretly enjoy.

Nicholas Sparks is the best-selling author of seventeen novels. Six of his books have been adapted for the big screen; one is set to release in 2012 and two more are said to be in the works. Here, in order of release date, are six Nicholas Sparks movies to watch with your sweetheart and one to keep in mind for the future.  

  1. “Message In a Bottle,” the first movie based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, explores the themes of love and grief. The 1999 romantic drama tells of a woman who finds a tragic love letter in a bottle and travels to the Outer Banks to find the author. Kevin Costner, Robin Wright and Paul Newman star in this award-nominated movie.
  2. “A Walk To Remember” is a 2002 romantic drama about two North Carolina teenagers. Although the book is set in the mid-1950s, the movie portrays a late-1990s setting. Mandy Moore, Shane West and Peter Coyote star in this award-winning film, which deals with first love, grief and life lessons.
  3. “The Notebook” is a 2004 romantic drama about a two young lovers who become separated by their social differences. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, Gena Rowlands, the movie deals with the heartbreaking subject of Alzheimer’s.
  4. “Nights In Rodanthe” is a 2008 romantic drama about an unhappily married woman and a surgeon whose lives cross one weekend at a North Carolina bed and breakfast. Diane Lane, Richard Gere and Christopher Meloni star in the film, which features themes of love and heartache.
  5. “Dear John” is a 2010 war drama about an army sergeant who falls in love with a college girl while he is home on leave. Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried and Richard Jenkins star in the film, which explores the themes of love and war, illness and heartache.
  6. “The Last Song” is 2010 romantic drama about a teenage girl who reconnects with her father through their mutual love of music. Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth and Greg Kinnear star in the movie.
  7. “The Lucky One” is not yet released, but this Nicholas Sparks movie is planned for 2012. It centers on a marine who returns home after three tours in Iraq to search for the woman who was his good luck charm during the war. The film will star Zac Efron, Taylor Schilling and Blythe Danner.

According to Nicholas Sparks' official website, screenplay adaptations of “True Believer” and its sequel, “At First Sight,” are also said to be in the works.
