Forest Gump Quotes

Monday, July 25 by Kelly Cannon

There are so many memorable Forrest Gump quotes. The movie follows the life of the title character from his childhood as a handicapped child (both physically and mentally) through school, the military and his life beyond. As it follows Forrest through the years, it also follows the United States through some of the toughest days of its history. Despite touching on difficult subjects like Viet Nam, Watergate, the King and Kennedy assassinations and AIDS, the movie maintains a light and humorous touch – in part, because of the many Forrest Gump quotes that added a bit of comedy relief.

  1. Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Probably the most frequently recalled Forrest Gump Quotes. Originally from Forrest's mother, but repeated by him in the movie.
  2. Mama always said, dying was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn't. Forrest dealt with the loss of many friends and acquaintances throughout the movie; it's not hard to sympathize with his sentiment here.
  3. I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir. This is Forrest's response when his friend Lieutenant Dan asked Forrest if he'd found Jesus.
  4. Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That's about it. Another hugely popular Forrest Gump Quote, this time from his friend Bubba Blue, who was a bit of an expert on preparing shrimp.
  5. Stupid is as stupid does. Forrest's mother reminded him of this when he was young and people considered him slow witted. Forrest might not have been smart, but he surely wasn't stupid.
  6. That's all I have to say about that. Repeated several times throughout the movie, often when a topic has become too painful for Forrest to reminisce on any further.
  7. We was always taking long walks, and we was always looking for a guy named "Charlie". This was Forrest's description of his time spent as a soldier in Viet Nam.
  8. Lieutenant Dan got me invested in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him, saying we don't have to worry about money no more. And I said, that's good! One less thing. A humorous Forrest Gump quote, with Forrest explaining how he became wealthy. The "fruit company" was actually a certain computer company.
  9. Me and Jenny goes together like peas and carrots. Forrest describing his relationship with life-long friend Jenny, who was the love of his life.
  10. What's normal anyways? This quote from Mrs. Gump, who understood her son's limitations, but refused to let him be limited by them.
  11. Run, Forrest, Run! Another of the most memorable Forrest Gump quotes. Jenny yells it at Forrest when some bullies try to attack him. Running becomes a theme throughout his life.
