The 10 greatest romance movies of all time take two normal people and set them off on an extraordinary journey to discover true love. These movies are not sappy but infuse real feelings into the audience watching them, making you care about these people and hoping that they can one day find love.

  1. “Titanic” – One of the most financially successful movies ever made is also one of the greatest romance movies of all time. While this movie is about the final days before the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank, it is really about the love story between two people on the boat and their final days together.
  2. “Amelie” – This quirky French film is one of the greatest romance movies of all time. Amelie is a young girl who works in a diner and made it her life goal to make everyone around her happy. It is not until she sets out to find her true love that she finally makes herself happy.
  3. “Pretty Woman”Julia Roberts and Richard Gere star in one of the most popular of the greatest romance movies ever made. Roberts plays a Hollywood hooker and Gere is a businessman who pays her to escort him to various social functions.
  4. “Roman Holiday” – The beautiful Audrey Hepburn stars in one of the greatest romance movies ever made as a princess who runs away from her responsibilities. While on the run, she meets a reporter and the two share adventures until she is forced to return to her duties.
  5. “City of Angels”Nic Cage and Meg Ryan star in this, one of the greatest romance movies ever made. Adapted from the German film “Wings of Desire,” Cage plays an angel who chooses to forever forego his angelic form to take human form so he can experience love with a beautiful doctor.
  6. “When Harry Met Sally” – Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal star in this, one of the greatest romance movies of all time. The two are friends, who eventually question whether they should take their relationship to the next level, at the risk of ruining their great friendship.
  7. “Message in a Bottle” – Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, this is one of the greatest romance movies of all time. Kevin Costner is a widowed boat man who meets a reporter who is investigating letters that were discovered washed ashore in a bottle. The movie is a tear jerker but well worth the time.
  8. “Ghost”Patrick Swayze is a murdered man who returns as a ghost and sets out to save his girlfriend from also becoming a target. One of the greatest romance movies ever made, “Ghost” examines what happens when a couple has to finally say goodbye for the last time.
  9. “The Notebook” – This is a terribly depressing movie but remains one of the greatest romance movies of all time. The story is told in flashback by a man whose wife no longer remembers him due to dementia. The man is retelling their love story to her so she will remember him every time.
  10. “Love Story” – This movie from the ‘70s remains one of the greatest romance movies ever made. Ali McGraw and Ryan O’Neal star as a couple who fall in love and, despite the objections of his father, make it work. When she falls ill, the two remain together until the very end.
