10 Chick Flick Oscar Movies

There have been many Oscar winners for Best Picture, but here are 10 chick flick Oscar movies. While many movies that win the big award are dramas, there are few that cater to the female population. These movies include moments that make them award winning films but also present the special additions that makes them perfect chick flicks.

  1. “Chicago” – The 2002 Oscar winner for Best Film is the perfect chick flick Oscar movies. The movie is an adaptation of the state musical of the same name. Directed by Rob Marshall, the musical includes performances by Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta Jones.
  2. “Shakespeare in Love” – The Weinstein’s released this movie and pushed it to the moon in 1998. This is one of the better chick flick Oscar movies, the first comedy to win the Best Picture Oscar in almost twenty years. It went on to win seven Oscars that year.
  3. “Titanic” – The ultimate of the chick flick Oscar movies, James Cameron’s film was the all-time box office leader until “Avatar” broke the record. The movie received fourteen Oscar nominations, winning eleven of them including Best Picture.
  4. “The English Patient” – Based on the novel by Michael Onjaatje, this is one of the best chick flick Oscar movies of all time. Directed by Anthony Minghella, the movie went on to win nine Oscars including one for Best Picture. The film follows a nurse taking care of a critically burned man.
  5. “Driving Miss Daisy” – Adapted from the stage play of the same name, this remains one of the best chick flick Oscar movies. The movie stars Jessica Tandy as Miss Daisy and Morgan Freeman as the chauffeur hired to drive her around. The movie explores racial tensions throughout the years.
  6. “Terms of Endearment” – One of the best chick flick Oscar movies of all time, this film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor. The movie follows the relationship between a mother and daughter and their search for love.
  7. “Kramer vs. Kramer” – This 1979 Oscar winning drama is one of the best chick flick Oscar movies ever made. The film stars Dustin Hoffman as a man left to raise his son alone when his wife leaves him. She returns over a year later and tries to regain custody of their son.
  8. “The Sound of Music” – Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer star in this adaptation of the Broadway musical, one of the best chick flick Oscar movies of all time. The movie, filmed in Europe, won five Academy Awards while also receiving a Grammy nomination as well.
  9. “My Fair Lady” – This 1864 musical is one of the best chick flick Oscar movies of all time. The movie is an adaptation of both the stage play and the 1938 movie, “Pygmalion.” The award winning musical, starring Audrey Hepburn, won eight Oscars.
  10. “All About Eve” – This 1950 drama starring Bette Davis is one of the best chick flick Oscar movies ever made. Bette Davis stars as an aging Broadway star pushed aside by a younger actress who plans to replace her. The movie also stars a young Marilyn Monroe.

    Chicks Flicks

    I’ve always thought Sound of Music more of a great film that everyone can enjoy. Never really thought of it as a chick flick.
