10 Best Faith-Based Movies
The 10 best faith-based movies both look at religion and simple acts of faith and show what an extraordinary thing faith can be. Some of the movies are historical epics while others are modern day parables in the world in which we live. Most are religious in nature and all prove that having faith is a very strong quality.
“The Last Temptation of Christ” – Martin Scorsese received a lot of criticism from churches for his movie, but it remains one of the best faith-based movies ever made. The movie follows the life of Christ and concludes with his final temptation before making the ultimate sacrifice.
“The Passion of the Christ” – Mel Gibson had his biggest success with this, one of the best faith-based movies ever made. Much like Martin Scorsese’s film, Gibson chronicled Christ’s final days and his final temptation but Gibson’s film was embraced by churches everywhere.
“Left Behind” – Based on the hugely popular book series, “Left Behind” is one of the best faith-based movies of all time. Former TV star Kirk Cameron stars in this movie where all Christians ar taken to Heaven and the final days on Earth begin for the nonbelievers.
“The Ten Commandments” – Cecil B. DeMille created one of the best faith-best movies of all time in this extravagant movie starring Charlton Heston as Moses. The movie earned seven Oscar nominations, winning one. The National Film Registry added it to their archives in 1999.
“One Night With the King” – This 2006 epic film stars John Rhys-Davies and Luke Goss and remains one of the best faith-based movies of all time. The movie retells the Biblical story of Esther, a woman in the Old Testament, who approached the king and asked him to save the Jewish people.
“Pay it Forward” – While not a religious film, this remains one of the best faith-based movies of all time. The movie stars Kevin Spacey as a teacher who instructs his class to come up with a way to make the world better. One student devices the “Pay it Forward” method, where you help someone and they help someone in return.
“Facing the Giants” – This Christian sports drama is one of the best faith-based movies made. The movie follows high school football coach whose life is falling apart. When he prays to God for help and dedicates his life to celebrating his religion, his prayers are answered.
“Fireproof” – Kirk Cameron, from “Left Behind,” teams up with the director of “Facing the Giants” for one of the best faith-based movies of all time. The film follows a couple on the verge of a divorce. Caleb, wanting to save his marriage, starts a 40-day challenge to win his wife back.
“Book of Eli” – Denzel Washington stars in this post-apocalyptic thriller, one of the best faith-based movies of all time. The end of the world came due to religion and Washington’s character finds the last Bible in existence. He sets out walking, patiently waiting till God leads him to whoever will use the Bible for its intended purpose, instead of as weapon.
“Miracle at St. Anna” – Spike Lee directs this World War II drama, one of the best faith-based movies of all time. The movie follows the men of the Buffalo Soldiers regiment of the Army. The movie is an inspirational look at one of thes fighting men who never lost faith in what he believed in.
