The movie tells the story of three friends who head back to the spot of the happiest times of their lives only to find the place run down. However, when they get into the hot tub, they transport back in time to when they were younger and have a chance to change their lives for the better.
John Cusack is the main star in the “Hot Tub Time Machine” cast, a leading man of romantic comedies stretching his muscles lately in different genres. In this movie, he knocks it out of the park with his portrayal of the straight man to the comic geniuses around him. Cusack has always been able to play the flustered man, just watch “High Fidelity” to see that, and he does it once again here. Cusack holds his own and helps carry this movie to great highs.
Clark Duke is the youngster in the “Hot Tub Time Machine” cast. Normally a small bit character, he gets a lot of scenes to chew on in this movie and stands up well with the veteran actors around him. He plays the nephew of John Cusack’s character and the only one who does not revert into a younger version of himself, since he was not born in the era they transport back to. Duke also appeared in “Kick-Ass” and featured with co-star Rob Corddry in “Children’s Hospital.”
Craig Robinson has slowly been working his way into Hollywood, following his successful stint on the American version of “The Office.” In the “Hot Tub Time Machine” cast, he plays one of the friends who takes the trip but leaves behind a domineering wife and an unhappy life at home. Robinson has starred in numerous big screen comedies lately including “Pineapple Express,” “Zach and Miri Make a Porno” and “Miss March.”
Rob Corddry stars as Lou, the friend that everyone believes was attempting suicide in the “Hot Tub Time Machine” cast. It is his predicament that led everyone to want to relive their happy memories. Corddry plays the hard-to-like jerk in this movie that he perfected over his acting career. He hit it big when his show “Children’s Hospital” became a cult sensation after breaking in with the sketch show, “Upright Citizens Brigade.”
Other than John Cusack, Crispin Glover is the veteran in the “Hot Tub Time Machine” cast. He plays the bellhop in the movie who is missing an arm. One of the main punch lines of the movie is the question of how he lost his arm as, on numerous occasions, he almost loses it. Glover became popular when he played Michael J. Fox’s dad in “Back to the Future.”
