Romantic Comedies 2008
The romantic comedies in 2008 featured fun, entertaining movies for both guys and girls. While normally a genre that only females can stereotypically enjoy, these offerings includes great music, slapstick moments and just the right touch of nudity to entertain both sexes.
“Zack and Miri Make a Porno” – Kevin Smith attacks the romantic comedy genre in 2008 with a movie that retains his comic sensibilities. Zack and Miri are roommates who decide to make a porn to earn money to get by. Through it all, they discover they may be more than just friends.
“Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” – Michael Cera and Kat Dennings star in this romantic comedy from 2008 about a guy who can’t get over his lost love and a girl who can’t figure out where she wants to go in life. The movie remains enjoyable for its inventive story and great alternative movie soundtrack.
“Happy-Go-Lucky” – Sally Hawkins stars in this quirky, independent comedy about a woman who goes through life, cheerful and optimistic despite the situation. When her driving instructor falls for her, she finds herself in an uncomfortable situation. The movie received an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay.
“Ghost Town” – Ricky Gervais stars in this movie about a man who dies during a routine colonoscopy. He is revived but finds he now can see ghosts. These spirits want him to do something before they will leave him alone. When one asks him to stop his ex from marrying a jerk, Gervais falls in love with her in the process, much to the annoyance of the ghost.
“Swing Vote” – Kevin Costner stars as an alcoholic single father who finds that he is the one vote that will determine who the next president of the United States is. With the help of his daughter and a new woman in his life, he finally decides to do something positive for the first time in his life.
“The House Bunny” – Anna Faris stars in this comedy as a former Playboy playmate who moves into a sorority house to serve as the house mother. She helps transform the misfit members of the Zeta Alpha Zeta sorority into confident women while, clumsily, pining for a local college student played by Colin Hanks.
“27 Dresses” – In this romantic comedy of 2008, Katherine Heigl plays a woman who has been a bridesmaid in 27 weddings. When a wedding journalist played by James Marsden discovers her, he begins to get to know her while secretly writing the story of her exploits.
“How to Lose Friends and Alienate People” – Simon Pegg stars in this comedy adaptation based on the novel of the same name. He plays Sidney Young, a celebrity sensationalist journalist who is hired to work for a major publication. He soon falls in love with a co-worker while also garnering the attention of a starlet played by Megan Fox.
“Four Christmases” – Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon star as a couple who end up forced to visit all four sections of their respective families on Christmas one year. The wildness of their family’s lives pressure them to consider splitting up and they have to discover that they are not their families to move on in their relationship.
“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” – Jason Segel stars in this romantic comedy from 2008 about a man who has his heart broken by his girlfriend and can’t figure out how to move on. He chooses to go on vacation, only to find his ex-girlfriend there with her new rock star boyfriend.
