Love Actually Quotes
Movie quotes are of special interest to the average movie watcher and “Love Actually” quotes are no exception. Movie quotes can inspire us, make us laugh and help us reminisce. They can even be used for the occasional Facebook status if the day calls for it. So indulge your mind and take in some “Love Actually” quotes.
Prime Minister: “Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. . .When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaking suspicion love actually is all around.” This monologue from the very beginning of “Love Actually” perfectly sums up the film’s focus-- that these many different people, their love and all its different forms, are important.
Daniel: “Well, I mean, I'm a little relieved. . .I thought it would be something worse.” Sam: “Worse than the total agony of being in love?” This conversation occurs between young Sam and his middle-aged stepfather Daniel soon after the death of Sam’s mother. Though Sam misses his mother, he finds it hard to forget the very important fact that he is in love.
Aurelia: “Just don't go eating it all yourself, you're getting chubbier every day.” Jamie: “I'm very lucky, I've got one of those constitutions where I never put on weight.” In a modern sort of Cinderella story, a writer who works in the country is attended to by a beautiful Portuguese housekeeper who loves him, but can’t tell him because she can’t speak English. Because he can’t speak Portuguese, the two have conversations similar to the above and don’t even realize they’re on the same topic.
Sam: “But you know, the thing about romance is. . .people only get together right at the very end.” This quote from young Sam is a nod to the traditional movies about love, where people only realize their loves either too late or right at the end of the film. Though this also occurs in “Love Actually,” the irony is well noted.
Aurelia: “Thank you. That will be nice. Yes is being my answer. Easy question.” This particularly adorable quote comes from the Portuguese maid Aurelia after Jamie proposes, revealing to him that she has been learning English so she can communicate with him.
Daniel: "Sam, you've got nothin' to lose, and you'll always regret it if you don't! I never told your mom enough. I should have told her everyday because she was perfect everyday.” Inspired by the love that his step-son feels, Daniel urges him to put himself on the line even though the girl he loves is leaving England.
Karen: “You've also made a fool out of me, and you've made the life I lead foolish, too!” This quote comes from a particularly gut-wrenching scene in which wife and mother Karen discovers a necklace her husband was going to give to his secretary.
Mark: “But for now, let me say - Without hope or agenda - Just because it's Christmas - And at Christmas you tell the truth - To me, you are perfect - And my wasted heart will love you - Until you look like this.” [shows a picture of a mummy] Half teasing, half seriousness, this quote comes from someone experiencing unrequited love. Though he’s done his best to ignore her for his own self-preservation, Mark eventually bares his soul to Juliet, who is married to his best friend.
Billy Mack: “Hiya kids. Here is an important message from your Uncle Bill. Don't buy drugs. Become a pop star, and they give you them for free!” This quote from the washed up rock star Billy Mack is classic, as he reinvents his career by means of a very cheesy Christmas song.
Colin: "Statesid I am Prince William without the weird family." This quote comes from confident Brit, Colin, after he buys a ticket to America specifically to meet women, as British women won’t have anything to do with him.
