In a film that deals with old friends reuniting, it's fitting that the “Grown Ups” cast have worked with each other in the past. Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider were on the cast of “Saturday Night Live” in the '90s, while Kevin James is best known for his role on television’s “The King of Queens.” Together, the cast of “Grown Ups” delivers laugh after laugh in a film about life, death and friendship.
Adam Sandler as Lenny Feder
Sandler plays a big shot Hollywood agent who returns home to New England to attend the funeral of his junior high basketball coach. He rents a house so he can hold a reunion during the Fourth of July weekend with his childhood friends and former teammates. Sandler is perfect in the role of a man who, in his early 40s, is coming to terms with his own mortality, yet still holds the immaturity of youth when he is around his pals from his younger days.
Chris Rock as Kurt McKenzie
In “Grown Ups,” Chris Rock is hilarious as a husband who stays home to care for his two kids while his wife goes to work. As if that wasn’t enough, he also has to put up with a nagging mother-in-law. Rock plays the character expertly, delivering razor sharp sarcasm with an underlying desperation of a man dying to break out of the role life has cast for him.
David Spade as Marcus Higgins
In every group of friends there is the slacker, the guy who really doesn’t have a direction in life, expecting to coast, chase women and take things as they come. Marcus Higgins is that guy. Played by David Spade, Higgins has a bit of a drinking problem and can’t seem to control himself around women, even his best friend’s daughter. Spade is brilliant in this role in "Grown Ups."
Rob Schneider as Rob Hilliard
If Adam Sandler is in a movie, it is almost guaranteed that Rob Schneider will be also. Schneider has appeared in almost all of Sandler’s movies, usually as eccentric characters. As Rob Hilliard, Schneider portrays a pacifist vegan who is in love with a woman 30 years older than himself. During the Fourth of July weekend, he is also reunited with his three daughters from three previous marriages. Only Rob Schneider can pull off such a bizarre character.
Kevin James as Eric Lamonsoff
Out of a job, unhappy with his weight and a little frustrated that his wife lets his four-year-old son continue to breast feed, Eric Lamonsoff welcomes the weekend getaway with his old friends in "Grown Ups." Kevin James holds his own amongst the “Saturday Night Live” alumni, delivering cracks and jokes with the ease of a comedic vet. He brings out a side in Eric that makes you hope everything works out for the guy.
