These comedy movies for kids are full of humor, adventure, and interesting characters. The films are great picks if you want to entertain children and also enjoy watching the movie yourself. The films below feature dragons, fairy tales, talking toys, and green ogres.

  1. “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” This classic from the 1980s provides a great action comedy movie for kids with an inventive plot. Four neighborhood kids accidentally shrink themselves down to the size of dust mites and must journey through their own backyard to find safety. Along the way, they meet insect creatures and are almost eaten in a bowl of Cheerios, but all turns out well.
  2. “Despicable Me” A recently released film, this animated comedy movie for kids is about an evil villain who plots to steal the moon. His plan is foiled, however, when a group of orphans attach themselves to the bad guy. Steve Carell and Julie Andrews provide their voices for the film. The movie contains both funny and heartwarming moments.
  3. “Beetlejuice” For a more mature kids comedy movie, this film contains plenty of ghoulish laughs and an offbeat premise. The movie centers on a young couple played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, who die and have their house taken over by a dysfunctional family. Michael Keaton co-stars as the hilarious Beetlejuice and Winona Ryder appears as ghost-obsessed Lydia.
  4. “Toy Story” A classic comedy movie for kids, the plot revolves around a group of toys led by Woody the Cowboy. He soon, however, finds his bedroom taken over by the cool galactic Buzz Lightyear action figure. For being animated toys, the characters all have a lot of chemistry and provide tons of laughs. The sequels are just as funny as the original film.
  5. “Mrs. Doubtfire” This comedy movie is perfect for older kids. Robin Williams stars as a voice actor whose immature antics lead to his divorce. Still wanting to see his kids everyday, Williams’ character decides to dress as an old British nanny. Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire is hilarious, and the movie provides plenty of jokes for both children and adults.
  6. “The Princess Bride” The movie may seem like another princess movie, but it provides an untraditional, tongue-in-cheek portrayal of fairy tales. The movie is filled with fun gags and boasts the comedic skills of actors like Billy Crystal. This is another great comedy movie for both kids and adults.
  7. “Shrek” This film also makes fun of the fairy tale genre, mocking films like “Sleeping Beauty” and “Snow White.” Shrek is a lovable, but grouchy ogre voiced by Mike Meyers, while Eddie Murphy provides the voice of the wise-cracking Donkey. Watch the original film for the most laughs.
  8. “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” A mix of live action and animation, this comedy movie for kids was a hilarious film from the 1980s. The movie blends carton, detective mystery, action, and comedy all into one. There are also subtle adult jokes throughout, so you’ll remain interested.
