10 Sexy English Movies

Monday, January 31 by Melissa James

The list for 10 sexy English movies is comprised of a variety of genres, from comedy to thriller, and is by no means exhaustive. What two things are surefire ingredients to making a sexy film? English and accent—well, as long as they skip on the bad teeth.

  1. "The English Patient" A quintessential masterpiece and 9 time Academy Award winner. The soundtrack and the cinematography of this film add to the fiery sensuality between Ralph Fiennes and Kristen Scott Thomas in this sexy movie based on the book by Michael Ondaatje.
  2. "Shakespeare In Love" Another Academy Award winner for Best Picture, this movie stars Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow, among many others, and tells a version for the inspirations of some of the English languages most enduring stories.
  3. "Pride and Prejudice (2005)" Hate to break it you, guys, but (most) girls have a crush on Mr. Darcy. This adaptation from 2005 stars Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfayden in the leading roles of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy. Though it may feel like holding a purse, watching this with your girl will earn you at least 20 action movies.
  4. "Much Ado About Nothing" Directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, this Shakespeare tale is one of the most fun and sensual, filled with sumptuous landscapes, romance, treachery and the unforgettable love/hate relationship betwixt Benedict and Beatrice, methinks this may be one sexy English movie.
  5. "Four Weddings and a Funeral" Full of British humor, love and death, this British romantic comedy classic is a definite win on all accounts.
  6. "Atonement" A period piece beginning in 1930s England, this story tells of young girl who falsely accuses her sister's lover causing irrevocable damage to their relationship and family and what could have been to make things right.
  7. "My Summer of Love" Part thriller, part coming-of-age. Two girlfriends discover things about themselves over the course of—you guessed it—a summer.
  8. "The Remains of the Day" Set in post-WWII England, this movie stars Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. It is a complex and subtle drama involving loyalty, betrayal and love.
  9. "A Room With A View" British-made and set in the Tuscan countryside, this film is about an engaged woman who falls for someone else while on holiday in Italy.
  10. "Under the Skin" A story of two sisters and the ways they deal with the death of their mother. One remains stable while the other tries to find herself through sexual encounters.
