May I recommend another oldie but goodie? Roujin Z is made by the same company that did Akira and has similar themes of technology run amok. It’s not as heavy and features more humor, occassionally perverted. The English dub, if you can find it, is actually passable.

The criteria here for “guy appeal” is murky at best and brain-numbingly simplistic at heart. BTW I’m a chick (if you haven’t guessed already) and I enjoyed 6 out of the 10 movies listed here, including “Grave of the Fireflies.” (not “Firefly) Yes, it was thoroughly depressing, but I sat through the whole damn thing and I’m quite sure I still have indoor plumbing…
