Famous Cartoon Characters
There have been many famous cartoon characters throughout the years but few have made the transition to the big screen. Over the years, there have been some characters that existed in animated movies and even more that were transited into a live action film.
Mickey Mouse – Mickey Mouse is one of the original Walt Disney characters and one of the most famous cartoon characters of all time. One of his first movies was the 1928 feature “Steamboat Willie” and he remained the face of Disney since that time.
Bugs Bunny – Bugs Bunny is the Warner Bros. equivalent to Mickey Mouse, the main Loony Toons character that all others are based. He first appeared in “A Wild Hare” in 1940. In 1996, Bugs Bunny proved to be one of the most famous cartoon characters starring with Michael Jordan in “Space Jam.”
Charlie Brown – Charles Shultz invented Charlie Brown and “Peanuts” in 1950. Over the years, the loveable blockhead appeared in many movies including “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” one of the most beloved holiday cartoons ever made.
Yogi Bear &ndash Yogi Bear is a Warner Bros. cartoon featuring one of the most famous cartoon characters. He debuted in 1958 and, by 1961, had his own television show. Yogi Bear, along with his co-stars in the Jellystone Park, was given a feature length movie in 2008 with Yogi voiced by Dan Aykroyd.
Winnie the Pooh – Winnie the Pooh was originally created by A.A. Milne for a series of stories and children’s books. Pooh Bear became one of the most famous cartoon characters when Walt Disney adapted the character into a number of feature films along with his woodland friends Tigger and Piglet.
SpongeBob SquarePants – “SpongeBob SquarePants” debuted in 1999 as a television series and SpongeBob SquarePants became one of the most famous cartoon characters. In 2004, “The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie” was released into theaters, featuring the characters living under the sea.
Scooby Doo – “Scooby Doo” was released originally in 1969 and quickly became one of the most famous cartoon characters in television history. In 2002, a live action movie premiered and a sequel introduced Scooby Doo and his ghost hunting partners to a new generation.
Peter Pan – Peter Pan is a character created by novelist J.M. Barrie who became one of cinema’s most famous cartoon characters when Disney made a movie in 1953. Peter Pan is based on the boy who never grows up and his army of boys who battle the evil Captain Hook.
Popeye – Popeye is a cartoon character that is a sailor that can gain great strength when he eats his spinach. The character appeared first in the 30s and was quickly adapted into short films. In 1980, the character was adapted into a live-action film starring Robin Williams.
Roger Rabbit – Roger Rabbit is the main cartoon character in the 1988 Walt Disney movie, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” The movie lives between the world of the cartoon characters and the real world where a private detective investigates a murder involving Roger Rabbit.
