When looking at a Disney movies list for adults, there are many choices to choose from, ranging from animated movies the company is best known for to the live-action features they produce. The Disney corporation has always been known for family-oriented films and these movies are all suitable for adults to watch with their kids, providing entertainment for all.

  1. “Toy Story 3” Disney purchased Pixar in 2006, but when discussing Disney movies for adults, the movies need to be made under the Disney banner. “Toy Story 3” was made four years after the merger and tells the story of growing up and moving on in life, leaving your childhood behind.
  2.  “Up” Another movie that Disney made under the Pixar banner is “Up,” one of the best Disney movies for adults. The movie features action and adventure with talking animals but presents themes of abandonment, the treatment of the elderly and latchkey kids as an old man and a boy scout set off on grand adventures.
  3. “Tron: Legacy” Disney created the original “Tron” in the '80s but released the sequel in 2010, taking place over twenty years later. This is fun Disney movie for adults thanks to the fact that it holds a place for people who remember the original and want to see where their favorite characters ended up in the computer world.
  4. “The Lion King” Based on the Shakespeare play “Hamlet,” this is a solid Disney movie for adults. The animated feature is a tale of loss, betrayal and murder. This movie features adult themes mixed in with the talking animals that kids love.
  5. “The Game Plan” WWE superstar The Rock stars in this Disney movie for adults as a star football player. One day learns he has a daughter he never knew existed when she shows up on his front doorstep. The movie is entertaining and features lots of humor and sports action.
  6. “Beauty and the Beast” This is the last animated movie to be nominated for an Oscar before the Academy began to recognize animated films in their own category. The movie retells the fairy tale of a young prince made ugly until he can find a woman who can love him for who he is inside.
  7. “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” This is an animated movie made specifically for adults. The subject matter is mature as Roger Rabbit, a cartoon character who stars in movies, is framed for a crime he didn’t commit. The movie also features a rather busty femme fatale and lots of in-jokes for Loony Tunes fans.
  8. “Pirates of the Caribbean” The popular Disney theme park ride was adapted into a movie and proved to be one of the most successful Disney movies for adults. The film series stars Johnny Depp as a pirate who ends up helping a young man and his love in the face of persecution and danger.
  9. “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this Disney adaptation of the classic video game franchise. Gyllenhaal is a street urchin who is adopted by the king. The movie is another version of “Hamlet,” as the young man is accused of murdering his adopted father.
  10. “The Nightmare Before Christmas” When Tim Burton was originally under contract with Disney, he began work on this animated feature. Years later, he finally got the chance to produce it for Disney. The movie is a stop-motion tale of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King, and his attempt to take over Christmas.
