Best Anime Of All Time

Here are some of the best anime of all time. Though what is considered the best depends on what a person prefers and can change over time, there are still some that are great no matter what the criteria is. The following are some of the best anime of all time that continually make the top lists.

  1. "Dragon Ball Z" – For many, this is the anime that started it all and will always be one of the best anime of all time. It is one of the longest running series of all time and one of the few that still reruns on television constantly. It might lack blood but it had plenty of fighting, drama, humor, and some of the most beloved characters of all time.
  2. "Sailor Moon" – It holds a position similar to “Dragon Ball Z” and has similar components like fighting, drama, humor, great characters. But, it also contains a decent amount of romance. “Sailor Moon” still maintains its place as one of the most beloved and best anime series of all time.
  3. "Galaxy Express 999" – This is one of the first sci-fi anime series and still one of the best. The elements that made it so amazing in the beginning are now common themes in anime, but it is still one of the only anime to ever put a train in space making it one of the most original anime series of all time.
  4. "Cowboy Bebop" – Considered by many to be the perfect anime series, due mostly to its famous ending, “Cowboy Bebop” consistently ranks in best anime of all time lists. And, its characters are some of the most popular of all time.
  5. "Neo Genesis Evangelion" – No other anime, except maybe “Gundam," can claim to torture their characters more then "Neo Genesis Evangelion." It’s a twisted story of a desperate fight and boasts some incredible mecha designs. Add in some enthralling characters and it makes it one of the best anime of all time.
  6. "Ranma ½" - To be fair, all of Rumiko Takahashi’s works should be on this list, but if they were, there wouldn’t be room for anything else. "Inu Yasha," "Maison Ikkoku," and others created by her are some of the best selling and longest running anime of all time.
  7. "Gundam" – No other series can claim to contain the same level of excellence, imagination, and understanding of human nature and the nature of war as "Gundam." It is at once an epic character study and at the same time, an excellent and entertaining fighting series. It breaks your heart as you watch but you can’t stop. Made up of multiple series and movies, it is hands down one of the best anime of all time.
  8. "Ghost in the Shell" – What does it mean to be human? It’s an unanswerable question and it is at the root of the “Ghost in the Shell” series. A psychological narrative as much as it is an action series, it raises many tough questions while still being one of the most entertaining and best anime series of all time.

DBZ over Sailor Moon. No way. Sailor Moon #1.

DBZ? Maybe in terms of getting people hooked on anime, but basically that was one giant filler anime series.

I completely agree with DBZ and Sailor Moon being up the top – no other animes have successfully crossed over to Western audiences as well as they have :) But I think Neon Genesis Evangelion should be no. 3 (and in the article it’s spelt wrong lol)

By the way I agree with most of this list except for DBZ and eva. Eva TV is good till last two episodes. Now you want to talk about new movies which blows away series and End Of Eva out of this universe.
