  1. “City Slickers” – Three friends from the city set out on a vacation to the wilderness for a Southwestern cattl drive in New Mexico. In one of the funniest outdoor adventure movies from the 90’s, the three meet a trail boss who puts them through hell and back, making their vacation a disaster.

  2. “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” – Kevin Costner stars at Robin Hood in this retelling of the legendary adventurer. Taking place mostly in Sherwood Forest, this is one of the best outdoor adventure movies from the 90’s, as Robin Hood battles the evil sheriff of Nottingham, played by Alan Rickman.

  3. “Hook” – Taking place on the high seas, Steven Spielberg’s “Hook” is a great outdoor adventure movie, starring Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook and Robin Williams as the man-boy, Peter Pan. The film is considered one of Spielberg’s flops but contains some memorable moments.

  4. “The Last of the Mohicans”Daniel Day Lewis stars in this outdoor adventure movie from the 90’s as Hawkeye, an adopted white son in a Mohican tribe, who finds himself in the middle of the French and Indian War. The film, directed by Michael Mann, is considered one of the finest Native American films.

  5. “Jurassic Park”Steven Spielberg created this movie as an outdoor adventure movie taking place in a nature park that features genetically engineered dinosaurs. The film received two sequels but the original is one of the most exciting adventure movies of the 90's.

  6. “The Three Musketeers” – This retelling of the swashbuckling adventures stars Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland and Olive Platt as the titular trio and Chris O’Donnell as the young man who wants to join their ranks.   7. “Congo” – Based on the novel by Michael Crichton, “Congo” is a great outdoor adventure movie from the 90’s about an expedition to the Congo to find some missing explorers. When they arrive, they find themselves hunted by murderous gorillas with genius level intellects.

  8. “Dragonheart” – This is a fantasy film starring Dennis Quaid as a knight who has sworn vengeance on all dragons until there is only one remaining. The last dragon, voiced by Sean Connery, teams with the knight to defraud villagers until they finally unite to battle an evil king.

  9. “The Edge” – This is a survival film that remains one of the better outdoor adventure movies from the 90’s. David Mamet wrote the script for this movie, where an older billionaire played by Anthony Hopkins heads into the wilderness with a young man played by Alec Baldwin who is having an affair with his wife.

  10. “Dante’s Peak” – This is a disaster movie starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton about a group of people who try to survive a giant volcano eruption. The movie was released at almost the same time as another movie called “Volcano” but this one remains the better of the two.
