Iron Man Cast
The “Iron Man” cast went a long ways to helping introduce the movie going audience to a comic book character few had heard of. Following in the footsteps of “Batman Begins,” this movie made sure to cast solid actors in the comic book roles, helping to make the genre a more serious addition to the movie canon.
Robert Downey Jr. – Robert Downey Jr. faced an uphill struggle when he was trying to make his acting comeback in the early part of the decade. He chose to take on the role of Tony Stark, Iron Man’s alter ego and the role fit like a glove. He made it his own and helped make the movie a lot of fun with his performance.
Terrence Howard – Terrance Howard played a military man and friend of Tony Stark who, as comic book fans know, would one day become a superhero as well. Unfortunately for Howard, he would not be back for the sequels, replaced by Don Cheadle.
Jeff Bridges – Jeff Bridges played the bad guy in the movie, a one-time friend and confidant of Tony Stark’s father who betrayed Stark and tried to take over the company. Bridges went on to win an Oscar the next year and brought his strong level of laid back cool to the “Iron Man” movie.
Gwyneth Paltrow – Oscar winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow was brought aboard the “Iron Man” cast as the secretary of Tony Stark. She helped elevate the thankless role into something special with her charisma and chemistry she held with Downey Jr. in their scenes playing off one another.
Leslie Bibb – Leslie Bibb played Christine Everhart, a reporter who writes a story about Tony Stark. She also is romantically attacked to him for a short time. Her most popular role is that of Ricky Bobby’s wife in “Talladega Nights.”
Clark Gregg – Clark Gregg played a small role in the “Iron Man” cast as a government agent who has designs on the Iron Man armor for the U.S. government. His character would be expanded in the second movie as well as the “Thor” film in 2011.
Paul Bettany – Whil Paul Bettany never appears in the movie as a proper member of the “Iron Man” cast, his voice is heard throughout the movie as the super computer Jarvis, which works for Tony Stark as an assistant and butler. Bettany has appeared in two other comic book movies since, “Legion” and “Priest.”
Jon Favreau – Jon Favreau is the director of this movie but also appears as part of the “Iron Man” cast. He plays Happy Hogan, an associate of Tony Stark who works with him both as a driver and as muscle when needed. Favreau directed both of the first two “Iron Man” movies.
Sam Jackson – While he did not appear until after the final credits, Sam Jackson is a pivotal member of the “Iron Man” cast. He shows up at the end and tells Tony Stark that he is needed to help fill a new team that the government is working on calle The Avengers.
