The best B movie heroes are often edgier than their big budget Hollywood counterparts. These characters were designed for movies where the budget was a little slimmer, so they had to attract viewers in other ways. Many of these movies have become beloved by audiences and some of the actors even went on to star in bigger budget sequels.

  1. Mad Max Rockatansky Mel Gibson played this tough guy character in three “Mad Max” films. The series is about an apocalyptic future with gangs and the first film was extremely low budget.

  2. James Braddock Chuck Norris starred as this B movie hero in the “Missing in Action” series of films. He is a war veteran trying to save P.O.W.s.

  3. Tarzan This character has been played by different actors over the years, but almost all the movies would qualify as B movies in their times. The most definitive version of the character was played by Johnny Weissmuller.

  4. The Man With No Name Clint Eastwood starred as this  -movie hero in the western “A Fistful of Dollars.” This was an Italian western and even though it has become a classic, the film was made on a shoestring budget by Hollywood standards.

  5. Snake Plisskin Kurt Russell starred as this B movie hero in the John Carpenter science fiction movies “Escape from New York” and “Escape From LA.” Both movies are rather over the top, but the sequel is crazier than the first film.

  6. Soldier This B-movie hero isn’t as well known as some others. Lorenzo Lamas played this tough guy character with a mysterious past in a series of films starting with “Snakeater.”

  7. Cho Osaki Martial arts expert Sho Kosugi played this ninja in the definitive ninja action film “Revenge of the Ninja.” He’s trying to rebuild his life in America after the tragic death of his wife and son when he finds himself targeted by an enemy ninja.

  8. Joe Armstrong Michael Dudikoff played this character in the “American Ninja” movies. These are solid martial arts films that keep the tension revved up and maintain constant entertainment.

  9. Deathstalker There were a few movies made about this barbarian B movie hero, but the original “Deathstalker” is the best. Rick Hill played him in that film and his performance may not be all that complex, but it works.

  10. Buckaroo Banzai Actor Peter Weller played this B movie hero in the film “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension." It’s a very over the top science fiction film that has gained a solid cult following.
