5 Best Action Movie Parodies

Monday, February 28 by Jacob Quinn

The 5 best action movie parodies are all hilarious experiences that also have a bit of excitement and adventure mixed in. Any movie genre can potentially be parodied, but action movies make for a particularly good target because they often take themselves way too seriously, which can lead to unintentional absurdity. These movies do a good job covering those elements of action cinema with the most potential for great comedy.

  1. “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” This may be the greatest comedy film of all time and certainly qualifies as the greatest of the action movie parodies. It’s about the quest for the Grail and has all the crazy, absurd humor anybody could ever want. This movie is totally hilarious from beginning to end.
  2. “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” Very few action movie sub-genres are as ripe for parody as the spy film and Austin Powers proves that point. Mike Meyers in the title role probably provides the best performance on this list of action movie parodies.
  3. “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” Director Mel Brooks made quite a few parody films, including a few action movie parodies and this one is really fantastic. The humor isn’t sophisticated in any way, but it’s consistently funny. The musical sequence where they sing the “Men in Tights” song is particularly memorable.
  4. “Kung Pow: Enter The Fist” Many people have tried doing action movie parodies of kung-fu movies, but none can match this 1990s classic. The movie touches on every cliché of the martial art movie genre with constant hilarity.
  5. “The Toxic Avenger” There may never be any action movie parodies that do a better job with the superhero genre than this film. This movies has a lower budget than the other action movie parodies on this list and that allows the filmmakers to push the envelope in ways that wouldn’t be tolerated with most mainstream movies.
