"Alien." While some thought this film to be simply a blood-and-gore horror flick set in outer space, the majority were simply blown away by this movie. The designs and special effects, although crafted during the late 70s, still holds up extremely well. The villainous alien frightened audiences in almost the same way a horror movie would but a spunky performance by a young and nubile Sigourney Weaver provided more than enough action to earn this film the number ten spot on this action movie list.
"Aliens." If there was any doubt that "Alien" was not an action movie, there should be no doubting the next movie in this list. Sigourney Weaver reprises her role as Ripley and is forced back into action to battle a hoard of aliens in a distant planet. This time, however, she has a battalion of space marines to watch her back.
"The Matrix." Although the sequels were a disappointment, the original simply amazed audiences worldwide. After people managed to stop talking about the incredible action sequences, they then spent the next few weeks discussing the philosophical and theological undertones of the matrix.
"Terminator 2: Judgment Day." Who said sequels were never as good? "Terminator 2" doesn't just surpass its predecessor, it blows it out of the water completely. With a visionary director in James Cameron calling the shots, “T2” is firmly entrenched as one of the greatest action movies of all time.
"Die Hard." Many say that like fine wine, Bruce Willis gets better with age. While that may be true, there is no denying that "Die Hard" was one hell of a movie. The film was so good that it propelled Bruce Willis to even greater heights.
"The Dark Knight." "The Dark Knight" is actually considered by many as one of the best comic book movies of all time. Though the action and special effects were incredible, the award-winning performance of the late Heath Ledger as the sinister Joker simply overshadowed everything else.
"Letha Weapon." "Lethal Weapon" is everything an action movie should be with massive explosions, extended gunfire exchanges and improbable stunts. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover both helped make this make movie successful enough that it spawned three more sequels with a fourth reportedly in the works.

Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.” Nuff' said.
"Bourne Ultimatum." "Bourne Ultimatum" is the last leg of a trilogy that improved with each sequel. The relentless, pulse-pounding cat-and-mouse chase aside, Matt Damon's character killed a bad guy with a coffee table book. What more do you want?
"Raiders of the Lost Ark." With Steven Spielberg working behind the camera and Harrison Ford in acting front of it, the movie was destined for success. Released and re-released in Betamax, VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray, there is a reason why it was picked up by eager buyers in virtually all media formats. It simply is that good of a movie.
