Creator Rhett Reese took to Twitter last night to report the news that the terrible pilot inspired by the movie would not be picked up by Amazon after all. He tweets, “I’ll never understand the vehement hate the pilot received from die-hard Zombieland fans. You guys successfully hated it out of existence.”

The cheap-o version of the not particularly enjoyable movie was posted on Amazon with a few other pilots in the first wave of the company’s experiments with original programming. It was the highest profile pilot released but thanks to an absence of quality and an abundance of negative feedback, the series will not be moving forward. In fact, I hear the cast will never work again. Even the ones who hid their faces behind heavy amounts of zombie makeup.

What’s most impressive is how quickly and well this system worked. You have to hate something sooo hard to make it no longer exist. So good job! Now let’s get to work on making the movie version disappear too. Hate until it hurts! (CHUD)

A Person Mentioned Christopher Nolan And James Bond In The Same Sentence, So We’re Gonna Report On That http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/a-person-mentioned-christopher-nolan-and-james-bond-in-the-same-sentence-so-were-gonna-report-on-that/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/a-person-mentioned-christopher-nolan-and-james-bond-in-the-same-sentence-so-were-gonna-report-on-that/#comments Fri, 17 May 2013 19:37:26 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254904 While Christopher Nolan has his hands full with Interstellar, a science fiction film that will no doubt confuse me, he has gone on record as saying he’s interested in perhaps helming a James Bond film. With Sam Mendes walking away, now would be the perfect time to discuss Nolan’s involvement in the next chapter of Bond.

The Daily Mail has offered that the producers of the franchise, Michael G. Wilson and the disgustingly named Barbara Broccoli, have approached Nolan with an offer to direct the next installment. No (reported) word on what the outcome of the (reported) talks are, but I’m sure we can hear all about it as soon as we get a source on the inside (allegedly).

‘Riddick’ Is Like ‘First Blood’ In Space!! http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/riddick-is-like-first-blood-in-space/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/riddick-is-like-first-blood-in-space/#comments Thu, 16 May 2013 16:40:16 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?post_type=video&p=254871 When we last saw Riddick he was choking the dragon on the surface of the desert planet where he’s been living by himself for ten years. This new trailer gives us a bit more. A team of bounty hunters track him and attempt to take his head. However, Riddick enjoys his dragon-choking time deeply and doesn’t cotton to interruption so he begins picking them off one by one. And then the monsters awaken and things really get crazy.

It’s like First Blood in space! How come nobody thought to make this sooner?

Make The Cast Of ‘This Is The End’ Do Weird Stuff To Each Other http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/make-the-cast-of-this-is-the-end-do-weird-stuff-to-each-other/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/make-the-cast-of-this-is-the-end-do-weird-stuff-to-each-other/#comments Wed, 15 May 2013 23:02:20 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254863 Are you fan of Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, and Danny McBride but find it frustrating that you have no control over their thoughts and actions? Your problems are solved. The guys have This Is The End headed to theaters on June 12th and as a “thank you” to the fans, they’ve agreed to get weird with one another.

Your involvement is simple. Just visit the This Is The End Facebook page and give them a LIKE. The more likes that they receive, the more crazy stuff you can see them do. For instance, if the page gets 500K likes, Danny McBride will wax Seth Rogen’s back (trust us, he’s overdue);  650K likes will force Jay Baruchel and Danny McBride to eat the same spaghetti noodle like a couple of lovesick dogs;  and for 800K likes Seth Rogen will paint a (hopefully tasteful) nude portrait of James Franco.

So, get to it. There’s hilarious male nudity out there just waiting for you! And remember to check back here as new videos are unlocked.

Don’t Back Zach! http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/dont-back-zach/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/dont-back-zach/#comments Wed, 15 May 2013 16:57:55 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?post_type=video&p=254861 Zach Braff spends his time sleeping with models and eating great food. If he has money for that, he shouldn’t need the public’s help with funding his vanity project.  Our “Don’t Back Zach” campaign was launched in response to the new wave of celebrity Kickstarted vanity projects.  Whether it’s Melissa Joan Hart raising money for a film where she doesn’t play Clarissa, or Zach Braff raising money for a movie he wants you to think is the sequel to Garden State, it seems like there’s no celebrity too small or idea too dumb to not get its own crowdfunding campaign.  So, us too!

Enough is enough. Famous people have two things we normals don’t: money and access.  By turning to crowdfunding, they’ve gamed the system, cashing in on their fame to make any project they want with no risk to their own bankroll, and owing no profits to their “investors” if its a success.

We need to send them a message that this is NOT OK, and with your help we can do just that…

We’ve put together a full-page advertisement telling everyone we “Don’t back Zach.” We’ll need $10,000 to run it in the local film & TV industry magazine, the Hollywood Reporter, and if we hit $200,00 we’ll go national in a magazine like Entertainment Weekly.  And if we get $5,000,000 we’ll carve it into the moon! All funds will be returned if we don’t hit our 10k goal!

‘Toxic Avenger’ Remake Sees A Need To Cast Arnold Schwarzenegger http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/toxic-avenger-remake-sees-a-need-to-cast-arnold-schwarzenegger/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/toxic-avenger-remake-sees-a-need-to-cast-arnold-schwarzenegger/#comments Tue, 14 May 2013 17:26:28 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254848 In news even weirder than the original film, Arnold Schwarzenegger has signed on for Steve Pink‘s Toxic Avenger remake. I honestly had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1st when I read this news. But, nope, it appears to be true.

It’s reported that Schwarzenegger will play The Exterminator, which is not exactly a complimentary title when applied to someone often mistaken for being German, a former black ops agent who trains the Toxic Avenger to fight polluters. Here are some confusing quotes from people who should know better:

“Moviegoers around the world were thrilled when Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to acting so effortlessly filling the gap that he left behind,” said producer and International Film Trust co-founder Michael Benaroya in a statement.

“Our film is a perfect combination of commercial genre, star power and award winning filmmakers to set it apart from other titles on offer at Cannes this year,” IFT president Ariel Veneziano added.

They do realize that Steve Pink made Hot Tub Time Machine, yes? I recall that film being passed over by the Academy. (Coming Soon)

Yes, the chain restaurant, and yes, I’m serious. Not much else is known, but what else needs to be? According to a Deadline article, the movie will be very serious, because Medieval Times demands to be taken seriously.

The production houses Benderspink and Broken Road have teamed up to buy the rights to make a film out of the experiential chain restaurant. Although it’s not explicitly disclosed, I’m surprised that it took two parties to raise the $217 (I assume) to buy the rights to make a movie about a restaurant.

Exciting stuff.

No. No it isn’t.

Review: ‘The Great Gatsby’ Is Equally Exhausting and Exhilarating http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/review-the-great-gatsby-is-equally-exhausting-and-exhilarating/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/review-the-great-gatsby-is-equally-exhausting-and-exhilarating/#comments Fri, 10 May 2013 21:45:37 +0000 Screen Junkies http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254810 By Inkoo Kang

Like Tim Burton and Wes Anderson, Baz Luhrmann is one of a handful of directors whose name evokes an instantly recognizable visual style. There’s something admirably self-assured about the Australian filmmaker’s ability to insert anything – dance competitions in Strict Ballroom, Shakespeare in Romeo + Juliet, ultra-generic opera plots in Moulin Rouge – in the Luhrmannizer, extruding a homogeneous, garish but fun product that exhausts as much as it exhilarates.

As you’ve probably already seen in the film’s trailer, The Great Gatsby brims full with the kind of optical overdose that Luhrmann has made his signature. The party scenes, which rival the ruffles-and-lace circus madness of Moulin Rouge, have glittery confetti and Disneyland fireworks sparkling above Jazz Age twerkers, swarms of women dressed like sea creatures, and a Williamsburg version of that creepy dancing man from the Six Flags commercials.

The construction and choreography of these set pieces are as sleek as ever, but the rest of the film is astonishingly visually inept. Much too often, Tobey Maguire’s voiceover tells us how the characters feel and how they develop instead of allowing us to see for ourselves. The resulting effect is to make the movie feel less like an adaptation than the next generation of books-on-tape, where we absorb the story aurally. But hey, it comes with some pretty if utterly redundant illustrations if you want to something to look at.

To be fair, Luhrmann is also faithful to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel in a good way – in that the plot is lifted pretty much straight from the book. It’s the Roaring Twenties, and Nick Carraway (Maguire), a wide-eyed Midwesterner, moves to the Big Apple to become a bankster like all the other cool kids. His next-door neighbor, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), is a reclusive young millionaire who ropes him into arranging an accidentally-on-purpose reunion with Gatsby’s first love, Daisy (Carey Mulligan), who happens to be Nick’s cousin. Nick agrees, despite the fact that Daisy is already married to – and has a daughter with – patrician douchebag Tom (Joel Edgerton, Australia’s answer to Benedict Cumberbatch). The small cast of pretty young things also includes Tom’s working-class mistress (Isla Fisher) and girl-golfer Jordan (Elizabeth Debicki), the only character that resembles an actual person, despite existing only to introduce Nick to How Things Are Done in rich-person circles.

As intended by Fitzgerald, Gatsby is a stern fable about the moral hazards of wealth. But a studio film made by a bunch of millionaires and financed by a bunch of billionaires has pretty much no chance at remaining Occupy agitprop. So Luhrmann remade Gatsby for the multiplex as a saga of romantic martyrdom, rendered all the more glamorous and tragic by the opulence the source material condemned. DiCaprio is the perfect actor for this Gatsby, despite speaking in a bizarre accent somewhere between Katharine Hepburn and a fancy horse that’s so wispy it tends disappears by the end of a sentence. He has only a single substantial scene here, but his Gatsby has so many echoes from the Leomania days – his roles from Romeo + Juliet, Titanic, and Catch Me If You Can – that all DiCaprio has to do to summon estrogen devotion is to stand around in spiffy linen suits looking dapper. For her part, Mulligan adds her natural sweetness and kitten eyes to their thoroughly adequate pantomime of mutual adoration.

Unfortunately, the camera returns again and again to Maguire’s Nick, a garrulous nonentity. When the character’s narration doesn’t fast-forward through all the interesting action for you, Maguire’s proximity to DiCaprio distracts from the film’s fiction by reminding you of the BFF stars’ real-life adventures in poonhoundery as the senior partners of the Pussy Posse. Their sexploits would probably embarrass the novel’s Gatsby, but their Hollywood excess would make a great Baz Luhrmann movie.

See it now, See it later, or Run in the other direction? Run in the other direction, unless you need another fix of Jack and Rose.

William Fichtner To Play An ‘Iconic’ Role In ‘Ninja Turtles’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/william-fichtner-to-play-an-iconic-role-in-ninja-turtles/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/william-fichtner-to-play-an-iconic-role-in-ninja-turtles/#comments Fri, 10 May 2013 20:51:18 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254801 Deadline reports that William Fichtner has signed on for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. No word on who he will portray beyond “a lead with iconic stature in the Turtles’ mythology.” This has lead many to posit he’ll play the film version of the Turtles’ greatest foe, Shredder. However, Shredder is meant to be Japanese and seeing a white guy do a stereotypical Japanese impression would be jarring — even in a Michael Bay movie.

So, we’re left to wait to hear whether or not Fichtner will wear knife shoulder pads or a warthog, rhinoceros, or samurai rabbit costume. Keep in mind, he does have reasonable experience in dressing ridiculously.

An eyewitness has reported to Hollywood.com that West was filming a scene on a rooftop with Paul Rudd and Christina Applegate. Do you like superhero movies? Congratulations. You’re representative of 99% of moviegoing America. But just to be sure that your resistance if futile, Disney is going to put this bastard up in 3D as well.

Now to what “bastard” am I referring?

Marvel’s Big Hero 6, which comes our way on November 7, 2014. The film follows a scientist and his robot who, along with myriad other colorful crimefighters, will take down the bad guys in a fictional city known as San Fransokyo.

Unsurprisingly, it looks as though Disney is trying to find the natural overlap between its core animation audience and the more kid-friendly Marvel titles. So far, so good.

I never was one to believe that death haunts people like in Final Destination, but in this instance, the inconvenience and frustration of a crumpled front end was an inevitability, and it comes to me later in the day in the form of a revitalized John Gotti biopic directed by Joe “Generic Name” Johnson and starring John Travolta.

You can’t cheat fate. There’s a whole saga behind this thing that you really don’t want to get into, as it involves Lohan, Kardashian, and Joe Pesci coming out of retirement, then suing the producers because he got too fat. Ok. Maybe you do want to revisit it.

Marvel Pays Sh*t http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/marvel-pays-sht/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/marvel-pays-sht/#comments Wed, 08 May 2013 20:11:05 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254756 The news of Robert Downey Jr’s $50 million+ Avengers payday becoming public knowledge is the real-life equivalent of Thor‘s hammer falling from the sky, as it has shaken the Marvel universe.

In comparison to Downey’s deal, the rest of the cast were reportedly paid $200K for their roles in the $1.1 billion blockbuster. Now that Marvel’s looking to execute their sequel options, things are getting interesting. The cast is looking for $5 million upfront and a bigger piece of the back-end while Marvel is allegedly threatening to recast — a tactic they’ve proven works pretty well in the past. The only card the cast has to play is a wild one; Downey himself.

With his contract obligations under his belt, Marvel will have to sweeten the pot if they want their star back for future sequels. But to Marvel’s chagrin, the Avengers are assembling with Downey as the leader. Deadline reports that the actor won’t sign for The Avengers 2 unless his cast mates are fairly compensated. “He’s the only guy with real power in this situation. And balls of steel, too. He’s already sent a message that he’s not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like shit,” says a rep who only cares about their percentage.

Personally, I feel like the real talent with Marvel films is behind the camera, and the money should be put on the screen. It doesn’t matter which actor dons the mask. 40% – 60% of these movies are all CGI anyway. As long as Marvel turns out quality films with awesome special effects, the talent will remain irrelevant. The Hulk proved that.

Simon Pegg And Nick Frost Crawl For Their Lives In ‘The World’s End’ Trailer http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/simon-pegg-and-nick-frost-crawl-for-their-lives-in-the-worlds-end-trailer/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/simon-pegg-and-nick-frost-crawl-for-their-lives-in-the-worlds-end-trailer/#comments Wed, 08 May 2013 16:42:19 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?post_type=video&p=254753 All Simon Pegg wants to do is complete the Golden Mile. The epic pub crawl he and his friends failed to finish decades earlier consists of twelve pubs in the same town, the last of which is “The World’s End.” However, there’s a new obstacle in their way.Frickin’ body snatchers.

With The World’s End, Edgar Wright, Pegg, and Nick Frost complete the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy they began with Shaun of the Dead and continued with Hot Fuzz. Up until this point, the plot was tightly under wraps with no mention of skin-walking alien invaders, which now just makes the film all the more awesome. And again with the fences.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Hits All-Time High, Gets More Popular As It Gets More Confusing http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/game-of-thrones-hits-all-time-high-gets-more-popular-as-it-gets-more-confusing/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/game-of-thrones-hits-all-time-high-gets-more-popular-as-it-gets-more-confusing/#comments Tue, 07 May 2013 19:48:16 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254744 Despite getting off to a rather slow start six episodes in, Game of Thrones has kept its momentum going, having garnered an all-time high audience during Sunday’s episode, which featured some wall-climbing and…a lot of people milling about and talking. Not exactly the most action-packed episode, but that’s a testament to how accessible this show is even when it’s not featuring guys getting limbs and heads cut off.

Lest you think the 5.5 million viewers (6.8 million if ya count the second airing, too)is an anomaly, viewership has set records each of the past four weeks, leading me to believe that American audiences actually get off on being confused. Sick bastards.

Maybe the writers will reward this sort of popularity with some action, or, failing that, breasts or dragons.

‘MI:5′ Gets Greenlit With Tom Cruise Returning http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/mi5-gets-greenlit-with-tom-cruise-returning/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/mi5-gets-greenlit-with-tom-cruise-returning/#comments Tue, 07 May 2013 18:50:35 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254739 Because the role of Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible franchise is one that doesn’t involve Tom Cruise posturing as a 6’7″ hero cop nor does it beg the real world parallels of Tom Cruise fighting aliens, playing the black-clad superspy seems to be a favorite of Mr. Cruise.

Which is why he’s back for fifths following the success of Brad Bird‘s Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. As you might remember having a Ghost Protocol is akin to being on Burn Notice, so do with that information what you will.

The film will be written and director by a chap named Christopher McQuarrie, who sounds like a Winnie the Pooh character, but is undoubtedly a fine creative mind.

‘Iron Man 3′ Almost Featured A Pepper Potts Sex Tape http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/iron-man-3-almost-featured-a-pepper-potts-sex-tape/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/iron-man-3-almost-featured-a-pepper-potts-sex-tape/#comments Tue, 07 May 2013 16:34:12 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254732 Fair warning: If you ignored our direct order and haven’t gone to see Iron Man 3 yet, read no further. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Empire Magazine sat down with director Shane Black and co-writer Drew Pearce to discuss Iron Man 3 in their latest podcast, which is SPOILER-HEAVY, and some interesting bits came to light. Apparently tired of freaky Wonder Woman sex, Pepper Potts strayed from Tony Stark’s bed and the result was caught on tape. Says Black:

“Pepper, in one draft, slept with [Aldrich] Killian because he was so pheromonially enhanced with this extremis that she couldn’t resist him and she was angry with Tony and so she sleeps with Killian and then he makes a sex tape and broadcasts it in Home Depot.”

That tyrant! Using Home Depot to besmirch Pepper’s reputation would make her look like a total whore in the eyes of migrant workers and women who want new cabinets. Is his evil boundless?

If You Have Been Begging For Remakes Of ‘MST3K’ Films, You Are In Luck, Weirdo http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/if-you-have-been-begging-for-remakes-of-mst3k-films-you-are-in-luck-weirdo/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/if-you-have-been-begging-for-remakes-of-mst3k-films-you-are-in-luck-weirdo/#comments Mon, 06 May 2013 22:55:00 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=254728 American International Pictures, a studio behind many of the films mocked on Comedy Central’s Mystery Science Theater 3000, was deigned ten of its films goodly enough to get the remake treatment, so you won’t even be able to enjoy the films on an ironic level, because they’ll be winking at their own campiness.

The first round of movies being remade includes The She-CreatureTeenage CavemanViking Women And The Sea SerpentThe Undead, and War Of The Colossal Beast. I don’t know any of those films, so I will just nod politely and make reference to the robots on the spoof film show.

Tom SERVO!

Sadly, there will be no robots to mock these films, so we’ll have to pick up some of the slack there.
