Top 10 Black Actors

The top 10 black actors have provided stellar performances throughout the years whether in TV or film to captive audiences. These black actors take pride in their craft and have brought pride to the African-American community from their powerful roles. Many of the top leading men now are black actors which shows the evolution of filmmaking over the difficult social changes in America. The versatility and passion from black actors is top notch and their contributions to any film makes for more compelling drama and story. Here are the top ten black actors:

  1. Denzel Washington. The versatile actor has been a leading man in many of his films and he has an Oscar to prove it. His credits include "Malcolm X," "Training Day," "Hurricane," and "Out of Time" to name a few.
  2. Sidney Poitier. The Oscar winning actor has graced the silver screen for many decades and his presence speaks volumes. The acclaimed actor worked on such films as "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "In the Heat of the Night," "A Raisin in the Sun," and "They Call Me MISTER Tibbs."
  3. Samuel L. Jackson. He broke on to the scene with his signature role as Jules in "Pulp Fiction." The actor followed that performance with others in "A Time to Kill," "Jackie Brown," "Unbreakable," and "The Incredibles."
  4. Don Cheadle. Another actor with a strong presence on screen has made his presence known in so many roles. His small list of accomplishments include "Hotel Rwanda," "Crash," "Brooklyn's Finest" and "Iron Man 2."
  5. James Earl Jones. Known for his classic voice, he used that talent to become the mouthpiece to Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" films. Over a long career, he has featured in "The Great White Hope," "Roots," "Conan the Barbarian," and "Field of Dreams."
  6. Morgan Freeman. A veteran actor's stoic stature has been felt in each of his roles throughout the years. His many memorable roles were in such films as "The Shawshank Redemption," "Se7en," "Glory," and "The Dark Knight."
  7. Laurence Fishburne. His strength and charm shines with each performance during his famed career. He has worked in "Apocalypse Now," "Boyz N Da Hood," "The Matrix," "What's Love Got to Do with It," and "Mystic River."
  8. Omar Epps. The young actor has made his talents known for so many years since "Juice." The actor has steadily worked in both film and TV from "Higher Learning" to "House M.D."
  9. Forest Whitaker. A virtual chameleon in each role has been his calling card amongst his talented peers. He won the Oscar for his performance as the vicious Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin, in 2006's "The Last King of Scotland."
  10. Jamie Foxx. This stand-up comedian grew into an up and coming actor with parts in "Ali" and "Collateral." His virtuoso turn as famed musician, Ray Charles, garnered him the Oscar for Best Actor in 2004's "Ray."
