Harry Potter’ Actors

Throughout the series, all "Harry Potter" actor involved with the film brought J.K. Rowling's characters to life. The first "Harry Potter" installment was released in 2001 and throughout the years audiences got to witness the younger actors grow up. Casting is key to any movie and thankfully, all the "Harry Potter" actors do their part justice. The actors have roles outside the Potter franchise, which will help avoid typecast.

  1. Daniel Radcliffe Radcliffe portrays title character Harry Potter and had a couple of movies under his belt before becoming a "Harry Potter" actor. His previous roles included parts in "David Copperfield" and "Tailor of Panama." More recently he played J. Pierrepont Finch in the Broadway musical "How to Succeed in Business (Without Really Trying)."
  2. Rupert Grint This "Harry Potter" actor made his film debut as Ron Weasley in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." His only entertainment experience prior to playing Weasley was acting in a school play. Since the "Harry Potter" films he's performed in the low budget movies "Cherry Bomb" and "Wild Target."
  3. Emma Watson Watson portrays Harry Potter's long-time classmate and friend Hermione Granger. She currently attends Brown University where she co-starred in the school's production of "Three Sisters." She will star in the movie "My Week with Marilyn" with Michelle Williams and Eddie Redmayne.
  4. Robbie Coltrane The "Harry Potter" actor got his start in the entertainment industry as a comedian. He has since gone on to have roles in two "James Bond" movies, "Th Brothers Bloom" and a voice acting role in "The Tale of Despereaux." In the "Harry Potter" series, Coltrane portrays the gruff, yet lovable Rubeus Hagrid.
  5. Maggie Smith Smith portrays the stern and wise Professor Minerva McGonagall in the "Harry Potter" movies. She's won many awards including two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, two Emmy Awards and a Tony Award. One of her most well-known film roles was her portrayal of Constance Trentham in the 2001 film "Gosford Park."
  6. Ralph Fiennes In the series Fiennes portrays villain Lord Voldemort. The Oscar-nominated actor is one of the most well established "Harry Potter" actor due to his roles in the critically acclaimed films "The English Patient," "The Reader," "The Hurt Locker" and "The Constant Gardner." The Tony Award-winning actor has been nominated for two Oscars.
  7. Alan Rickman This "Harry Potter" actor appears in the films as the always elusive and mysterious Severus Snape. Rickman got his start on the big screen in the 1988 film "Die Hard." Since then, he's become a well known stage and film actor. In 2010, his voice was used for the Blue Caterpillar in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland."
  8. Tom Felton The majority of his career has been acting in the "Harry Potter" film series. He portrays Slytherin student and Potter's long time enemy, Draco Malfoy. Felton started acting in commercials before joining the Potter cast at the age of twelve. He is one of the "Harry Potter" actors to appear in all the films.
  9. Michael Gambon Born in 1940, Gambon took over the "Harry Potter" role of headmaster Albus Dumbledore when Richard Harris passed away before the series was completed. On the BBC show "The Singing Detective" Gambon portrayed Philip Marlow. He has also been in such films as, "Gosford Park," "Sleepy Hollow" and "The Good Shepherd."
  10. Helena Bonham Carter This "Harry Potter" actress portrays Bellatrix Lestrange, female follower to Voldemort. Away from the Potter franchise Carter has done many time period movies including "The King's Speech," which gained her a 2011 Oscar nomination. Carter's been romantically involved with director Tim Burton since 2001 and has appeared in many of his movies including "Big Fish," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Alice in Wonderland."
