  1. James Arness. James Arness was born James King Aurness in 1923. The actor is 6' 6" and often other actors in scenes with him had to stand on boxes or Arnett stood in a ditch to make up for the difference in height. James Arness starred in 47 movies and television shows from 1947 to 1994. His most popular role was in the TV cowboy show "Gunsmoke," which ran from 1955 to 1975. Several "Gunsmoke" movies were also made starring James Arnett.
  2. William Boyd. William Boyd was born in 1895 in Ohio and died in 1972. William Boyd is best known for his role in movies and on television as Hopalong Cassidy. Hopalong Cassidy movies started in 1935 and were made up till 1952. The TV show ran from 1952 to 1954. He starred in more than 120 movies starting in 1918. He had gray hair in his twenties.
  3. James Garner. James Garner was born James Scott Bumgarner in 1928. The actor starred in nearly 100 television and movie roles in his career. His most famous cowboy role was Maverick, which made James Garner a star. He followed up with such iconic cowboy movies as "Support Your Local Sheriff," "Duel at Diablo," and "Sunset."
  4. Roy Rogers. Roy Rogers was born Leonard Slye in 1911 and died in 1998. The actor is an iconic cowboy movie star known as the "King of the Cowboys" and was married to Dale Evans. Roy Rogers acted from 1935 to 1984. He portrayed Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill Cody, and Jesse James. Roy Rogers starred with his wife, Dale Evans, in numerous movies and their theme song was "Happy Trails," which Evans wrote.
  5. John Wayne. John Wayne was born Marion Robert Morrison in 1907 and died in 1979. This iconic cowboy movie star is well known as a cowboy movie star. His nickname was "The Duke." John Wayne starred in more than 170 movies. Some of his most famous cowboy movies were "True Grit," "McClintock!," and "How the West Was Won."
