While many Western movies may seem like classics, the movies stars who play in them are just as memorable—especially these top ten old Western movie stars. Including both men and women, the stars that graced the silver screen in classic Westerns are worthy of recognition. Here you have it, the ten best old Western movie stars.

  1. John Wayne - Starring in an amazing 144 movies, including "Red River" and "True Grit", John Wayne is one of the most iconic screen actors who made his name making Western movies.
  2. Clint Eastwood – Starting in the 1950s, Clint Eastwood has created more than 60 movies over time. Eastwood is best known for his role as the rough and tough law enforcement officer Dirty Harry.
  3. Tom Mix – Mix made a name for himself in some of the earliest Westerns, acting primarily between 1910 and the late 1930s. Mix is best known for the countless silent films he made during the 1920s.
  4. Dorothy Page – Commonly known as "the singing cowgirl", Page is one of the earliest and most successful actresses in the Western genre. Page starred in multiple major motion pictures during the 1930s.
  5. Joanne Dru -  Born in 1922, Dru starred in more than 27 major  movies including "Red River" along side John Wayne. Dru's last Western, "The Wild and the Innocent", was made in  1959.
  6. Fuzzy Knight – Knight primarily played the role of the sidekick in Western movies from 1929 to the late 1960s. While his birth name is John Forrest Knight, since he began acting in the 1920s he has gone by the name of Fuzzy.
  7. Katy Jurado – Jurado acted in an amazing 40 Western movies during her career as a Hollywood actress. Her most infamous movies include "High Noon" in 1952 and "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" in 1973. 
  8. Gary Cooper – Born in 1901, Gary Cooper acted in some of the most memorable Western movies including "High Noon" and "The Virginian". Interestingly, Cooper was the director's first choice for the role of Rhett Butler in "Gone With the Wind"—Cooper turned down the role without question.
  9. James Stewart – While he has also starred in many non-Western films. Stewart also acted in several major Westerns and is best known for "Destry Rides Again" in 1939 and "The Man from Laramie" in 1955.
  10. Dale Evans – Married to the infamous Roy Rogers, Evans was quite the starlet herself starring in several major Western movies. Evans was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 1976.
