10 Best Indian Movie Actors

Saturday, April 30 by Ergopotamo

Names like Jack Nicholson, Jeff Bridges or Sean Penn are familiar for being considered a few of America's best actors, but what about the best Indian movie actors? For those Bollywood lovers, here's a list for you to get familiar with these amazing talents.

  1. Dilip Kumar. First actor to take in a Filmfare Award (something like the Indian Oscars) for best movie actor, was born in 1922 and has the record of most wins (eight) in this category. He began his career in the forties and starred in movies until the eighties. He also has been awarded for the contribution he has made to the Indian film industry with his career. A truly veteran of Indian cinema we all should get to know better in movies like "Daag" and "Shakti".
  2. Ashok Kumar. Late actor, Ashok Kumar was born in 1911 and starting his career in 1936, he is recognized as the best Indian movie actor of all times. He is said to have brought a more natural acting style to Indian films and with five awards (including one from the Indian government for his improvement to Indian movies) he can be seen in films like "Rakhi" and "Aashirwad".
  3. Raj Kapoor. Commonly known as Bollywood's Showman, this late actor also worked as producer and director. Starting his career in the forties he's known for working on movies that combine social causes with love stories. We can remember him in movies like "Sangam" or "Anari".
  4. Shah Rukh Khan. Starting his career in television and gaining recognition, this actor then moved into movies collecting 26 awards due to excellent performances in films like "Darr", "Baadshah" and "Shanti Om". He's the most requested Indian movie actor, having success in commercial as well as more serious films.
  5. Aamir Khan. Famous for films like "Lagaan", "Rang De Basanti" and "Taare Zameen Par", Aamir is a former child star praised for his versatile skills as an actor. He has the status of India's sweetheart and one of India's most exceptional actors owning fourteen important awards.
  6. Amitabh Bachchan. Son of a poet, Amitabh has art flowing through his veins. Working in movies like "Mohabbatein" and "Kabhi Alvida Naa", he has gained superstar status and has a characteristic deep voice, which has been used to narrate films. Kind of the Indian Morgan Freeman.
  7. Dev Anand. Having played lead actor for more than 50 years, Dev Anand keeps his legacy alive. From acting in movies like "Guide" and "Kalapani" to the Oscar winning and worldly recognized "Slumdog Millionaire", he has also worked as a writer and director.
  8. Saeed Jaffrey. Born in the late twenties, he started his career in the fifties working on plays in India and the United States. He then began a career in American television and films, participating in films like 1982's "Gandhi". With a degree in Dramatic Art and being the first Asian to receive an official recognition for his contribution to drama by the United Kingdom, he's an enthusiastic member of New York's Actor's Studio.
  9. Aishwarya Rai. Being the only woman in this list, she started as a model for various companies and got the crown for the "Miss World" pageant. She then made her path towards movies, gaining praise and acceptance in the industry. Now she's one of the most famous Indian movie stars worldwide.
  10. Anil Kapoor. He is probably the most recognizable Indian movie actor in this list due to his role as Prem Kapur in "Slumdog Millionaire" and his appearance in the famous television series "24" during the eighth season. Twelve time award winning actor, Kapoor has worked in over a hundred movies and currently has five more in production.

It is out and out terrible article. It is also a disgust to compare cheap crap actors like Shahrukh Khan with greats like Amitabh Bachchan and Ashok Kumar. This list also misses the names of really great Indian actors and places some really crappy names like Shahrukh kahn and Saed Jaffery. The actual list should have been:
    1) Amitabh Bachchan
    2) Kamal Hassan
    3) Mohanlal
    4) Rajini Kant
    5)Mammooty
    6) Raj Kumar(Kannada Hero)
    7) Balaraj Sahini 8) Ashok Kumar
    9) Naseeruddin Shah
    10) Om Puri

No other name could be put in this league. In follow of another actors would be
    11) Amjad Khan
    12) Pran
    13) The guy who played villian in Shiva
    14) Anil Kapoor
    15) Amir Khan
    16) Shashi Kapoor
    17) Amrish Puri
    18) Ajay Devgun
    19) Mithun
    20) Dharamendra

How on earth is Shahrukh Khan a disgusting cheap actor you jealous immature brat. Shahrukhs hit and blockbuster records speak for them selves, no need to judge him subjectively ..just because 2 actors are of muslim heritage it hurts you does it…judge him objectively based on success and where he has come in 20 years from a poor famil to a millionaire…huge success
I think the top ten actors are
    1) Amitabh Bachan
    2) Dilip Kumar
    3) Raj Kapoor
    4) Rajnikanth
    5) Shahrukh Khan
    6) Salman Khan
    7) Aamir Khan 8) Ajay Devgn
    9) Hritikh Roshan
    10) Dev Anand

Have you lost your head? Why would I feel bad for muslim link? Then why would have I named Amir, Amjad Khan and Nasseruddin? Man this is the problem with SRK fans..they are headless chicken! Being a star is different and being an actor is different. Here talk was for Actor and world knows how bad actor Sharukh is. Can you talk about him beyond romantic roles where too he gives overexpressions!
And man who told you he was from poor family? His family owned big chunk of land and house in Madangir area of south Delhi, owned cars and bikes…man correct your definition of poor! He is the man who had strong connection with all who and whos in Delhi including Rahul Gandhi and Vadras. And this guy is well known for buying awards instead of winning it. Otherwise not a single award to great actor like Amir Khan and flood of filmfare awards to SRK. SRK has not won even a single national award for his any performance in his entire career while Amitabh, kamal Hassan, Mohanlaal have 4 national awards. Even Ajay Devgun has 2 naitonal awards and Amir has one. SRK has been trying his best these days to get a national award anyhow and this is why he made an utter crappy movie MNIK where he broke all records of shaking and overacting. Acotr..my foot!

obviously the guy who made this list is retarded…im a student at NYU majoring in Film Direction, and we had a discussion once about Indian cinema…..Aishwarya Rai came up as one person whom we spoke about and I along with others who are associated with knowledge of acting will say that Rai has no clue how to act…she has no emotion/expressions. Most of her popularity came through being Miss World and she rode on that to become an “actress” who cant act for shit. I am not familiar with any other indian actors/actresses except Sallam Khan and Aishwarya Rai so I wont comment on the other people listed in the top 10 but Rai definitely does not deserve to be considered an “actress”
