FAST & FURIOUS 5: EUROPE?

Earlier today, Screen Junkies attended the Fast & Furious junket in Hollywood.  We had a chance to sit down at a roundtable Q&A with most of the principal cast, including Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Paul Walker and Vin Diesel, as well as director Justin Lin.  Probably the juiciest tidbit of information that came out of the sit-down was the hint of where the series might go - literally - should Universal decide to manufacture an even newer model.

First up was Paul Walker, who seemed laid back and comfortable to answer everything thrown at him as candidly as possible.  When asked if he was already contracted out for another installment, Walker responded:

"No but I've heard it. I've heard it in the rumor mill.  Like, I've spoken with executives at Universal at this point, and they're pretty serious about it.  They know where they want it to take place. They want to do it in Europe."

Walker expressed an interest in doing the film, as long as certain measures were taken.

"I really want everyone to put in their due diligence... to put time into it.  I don't think it would be too hard to make the very best one yet.  I don't think the best one yet has been made yet.  If we were to go make a fitth one, that would be the best one.  In my mind.  Otherwise let's not do it."

Walker suggested that co-star Vin Diesel was definitely already involved in developing a fifth film in the series.  "Vin's in there already, so you know, I'd like to get my day in court.  But [Vin's] got a big voice and he stays on it."

Diesel seemed to back up the idea that his character could easily be put in another film, and in a similar, badass capacity as in the others.  "I don't think [my character, Dominic Toretto] has a choice.  I think he's that quintessential anti-hero." 

In response to Collider's Steve "Frosty" Weintraub asking about Europe as a potential backdrop for FF5 and whether or not he was already thinking ahead, Diesel gave a unique insight into his methods:

"I think a few pictures at a time.  I try to work out the stories and I try to approach sequels in that Coppola way.  I try to think out the story. Even before we shoot the film.  So yes, I have been thinking about that. I actually thought about shooting both of the movies back to back, with Universal, but [Universal] was like, 'What?  We're just getting our feet back together...'" 

While Universal didn't give him his back to back Fast & Furious pics, Diesel did get to direct an 18-minute short film within the world of the series.  It'll be available exclusively on the Fast & Furious DVD and Blu-Ray.

In my opinion, if they're gonna make a 5th movie, please, don't introduce Letty, I would really get dissapointed, as if she wasn't murdered, that would sooooooooooooo dissapointing for mut of the fans, believe me, it would really suck

    April 21st, 2009 at 12:15 pm damn dudes, i just saw the movie for like the fifth time w/ my girl 2day and lemme tell u something that movie was mad cool. I thought some elements were outta place but other than that it was hot. My girl was kinda upset w/ the way they killed hot ass letty and man half of the audience was too, ya know i kinda understand that they needed a story line but hell why sexxy letty? couldn't they just kill someone else..damn i was pissed. well hopefully they'll fix it in the next one. dude w/out letty the hotness of the movie decreased seriously. I mean that girl is da hottest kick ass ever.

We never really saw her actual death, but instead imaginative flashbacks by Vin when he was trying to piece things together. Maybe she had to fake her death to protect Vin? lol... i know i know. Far fetched. But what can I say? I love that chica.

    May 7th, 2009 at 03:32 pm I have been reading all of your comments above (Well, not all of them lol) But if you really think about it Hong was alive in the 4th one, so technically he headed of to Tokyo in the begining of the 4th one, so technically the 4th one should be called 2.5 as Dom appeared at the end of the 3rd one (confusion to all lol) But i think that if they do make a 5th one it will take place in Tokyo or there-abouts? (Although that would be kinda repetative being back in Tokyo) But i definately think that the 5th one (if there is one) will be AWSOME! I think that in order to get great sales from a 5th one they are going to have to pull out all the stops for this one! xox

    May 17th, 2009 at 03:20 pm ok from 1 to 2 we all know the story carries on. but after watching 3 and 4 you can tell that 3 takes place after 4 cause han is alive in 4 and talks about going to tokyo.. in 3 toreto shows up at the end so he was busted out of jail duh so 5 should show what happened after it left off on 3.. or make it where they go after leaving the jail break but that still leaves 3 ending wide open.. so maybe it will end up having a number 6... the time lines need to add up. or the whole thing will be messed up... as far as the best one... 1 had a great view of the drag scene 2 had more of a circuit/gta mod job scene. 3 Drifting 4 had more of a burnout game/offroad look to it lol.. so they all had great points so each kind of had something for everyone.. its just my views..

Will they become better friends, or end up killing each other? and if Tyrese returned, that could add a lot of comedy to the film as well.
