![]() A Fanboy Rants: Why Star Trek Will Be Amazing So now that Abrams and company have finally seen it fit to bestow upon the world the long-awaited Star Trek trailer, we already have complaints sprouting up like little weeds all around the web. Sure there’s a fair amount of good buzz for the movie so far, but at least among Trekkies, Abrams seems like he’s going to piss a lot of people off by not following canon exactly. As far as I’m concerned, the canon can go screw itself if it would have prevented the bad-assery seen in the trailer. There’s a lot to like, even for a self-proclaimed Star Trek fan like myself, so let’s go through just a few reasons why anyone bitching over the trailer is a pointless pursuit. I have never seen Star Trek in my life. I will see this movie because J.J. Abrams is doing it, and the trailer looks badass to me.

I agree that TOS had a crapload of terrible eps (especially Season 3), but I think that Enterprise suffered from too much tossing the canon out the window.
On the other hand, it will be interesting to see how JJ Abrams handles updating the ship / tech since we know that some things predicted in the original Trek are far off base now.

Star Trek shouldn't be meddled with, not because it's old or perfect, but because to a lot of us it's important.
Why did they have to try and re-invent Trek?
Can't they give us something original, like Serenity?
I've read heaps of excellent Sci-Fi books, what about an adaptation of one of those - like Ridley Scott's next project, The Forever War?
Leave Trek alone, and try being creative.
