The Wolf Man

POSTED BY Screen Junkies | THURSDAY JULY 31 AT 9:05 PDT

There are plenty of old movie monsters out there just waiting to get the reboot treatment, and it looks like ol' Wolfy is ready for his close-up. Benicio Del Toro is sporting the claws and fur, in what promises to be a much gorier than the 1941 version. The story is a familiar one, with a normal guy getting bitten by a magical wolf creature, which causes him to get all Lycanthropic (that's a nerd word for werewolf) any time there's a full moon. If it's a success, we can probably look forward to more, including cameos from Frankenstein and maybe Dracula.

Studio: Universal

Rating: TBA

Release date: 2/13/2009

The first poster for Joe Johnston's The Wolfman arrived online today. The production has had its fair share of problems and as much as I hate to jump on the hater bandwagon, I've got to say, I'm really just not that impressed with the makeup effects. Seems too low-fi.RELATED JUNK: Middle Aged Wolf More...

The Wolfman Trailer - Watch more Movie TrailersThe new trailer for Universal's big budget remake of The Wolf Man had to go head-to-head with James Cameron's cinematic second coming, Avatar (marvel at that film's trailer here), but some in the Twitterverse have already crowned the hirsute Benicio Del Toro vehicle today's coming attractions champ.  Judge for yourself in the clip above.  It's kinda cool seeing Del Toro donning the fur and fangs, and the man's come a long way from the speech-impeded "Fenster" in The Usual Suspects.  Rumor is fellow Suspects castmate Stephen Baldwin is in talks to play the Creature from the Black Lagoon.  He'll be at Universal Studios Hollywood on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 12pm to close, and will make party appearances, but not in costume.
