There's always been a special place in my heart for the A Nightmare On Elm Street series, even the crappy ones to some degree. I was extremely jealous when the teaser launched all those months ago at Comic Con and I did not get to attend. Since then I have been wishing for the day that it would arrive online. That day is finally here. Below, check out the trailer for Samuel Bayer's remake of Wes Craven's classic. It looks like a solid update and based upon descriptions from a friend closer to the production, we're all in for a treat. The only way this could be improved is with a Chris Hansen cameo. The other week, we spent a whole feature speculating which actress would/should take over the role of heroine Nancy Thompson in Platinum Dunes and Sam Bayer's A Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Well, now Bloodydisgusting reports that actress Rooney Mara is in negotiations to do just that.Judging by Mara's credits, which include a couple episodes of "E.R." and the upcoming Youth in Revolt with Michael Cera, the negotiations probably involved Platinum Dunes calling up Mara's representation, Mara's representation calling Mara into a meeting to tell her, Mara hesitating for a nanosecond to take in what this will mean for her career, Mara's representation slapping Mara hard across the face (probably back-handed for emphasis), and then Mara taking the gig and agreeing to also schlep coffee and wax the producer's car when she's not shooting a scene - SAG rules be damned. This afternoon, BloodyDisgusting broke the news that actor Jackie Earle Haley is in final talks to play Freddy Krueger in Sam Bayer's update of A Nightmare on Elm Street, and that we can expect an official announcement as early as next week. (Shooting begins at the end of this month in Chicago.) This is some inspired casting. Haley has proven himself time and again in the twisted character roles. No matter what camp you fall into with Watchmen, you can't deny Haley as Rorschach was the best part about the film. And his turn as Ronnie the pedophile in Little Children is nothing short of brilliant. Every time I do my impression of Ronnie masturbating in the car, my girlfriend cries.
