Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom opens in wider release this weekend. If you get to the theater and Up and Drag Me to Hell are sold out - or if you're in the mood to just see a rock solid, atypical summer movie, then check it out (and if you want, read our review).  If you need extra incentive to see it, how about one of its stars, Japanese bombshell Rinko Kikuchi, who plays Bang Bang, the aptly-named explosives expert.  We won't delve into dirty jokes about her character's moniker, but we'll gladly play set up man for your sick minds.  Where else you've seen Rinko: Probably not many other films, unless you're a Japanese cineaste.  But her breakout role was in the Oscar-nominated Babel, a film in which she played the deaf/mute girl Chieko Wataya.  (She is one of eight actors of Asian descent nominated for an Academy Award in an acting category.)  Look for her in Mikael Håfström's '40s period piece, Shanghai, opposite John Cusack and Chow Yun Fat. Random Quote: "The nudity itself was not my concern." (re: Babel)See the photos of Rinko not concerning herself with nudity after the jump: More...

It appears Rian Johnson, the mastermind behind Brick and The Brothers Bloom, has decided to record and make available a downloadable commentary podcast to coincide with the expansion of Brothers Bloom’s limited release.  With movie tickets costing the price of what a kidney goes for on the black market nowadays, I’m sure tons of people are really excited about forking over the price for two tickets to see the movie with and without commentary.  Then again, I saw Brick twice in theaters, so maybe Johnson’s filmmaking is just badass enough to convince me to do this.  Or maybe I’m just lonely enough to see a movie twice with an iPhone podcast as my only company.    Find the link to the commentary after the jump! 'THE BROTHERS BLOOM' REVIEW

I loved Rian Johnson's first film, Brick* - the neo-hard boiled detective story set amongst high school social circles.  It was the one with a bespectacled Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the anachronistic dialogue and the fantastic score by Johnson's brother.  I saw it three times in the theaters.  Even bought it on DVD.  But as I sat down for my screening of Rian Johnson's followup, The Brothers Bloom, a wave of doubt washed over me.  No way he can do it again, I thought.  Besides, the trailers made it seem like a hodgepodge of styles culled from Johnson's contemporaries.  It was Hudson Hawk through the off-kilter lens of Wes Anderson.  Not necessarily a bad thing (I'm one of the few with fond memories of Hawk), but it wasn't promising to be a revelation like Brick... A new clip from Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom was released today.  In our last installment, we got to see Rachel Weisz's card skills.  In this one, we get to see Adrien Brody's lack of bicycling skills, as he flies down a steep decline and narrowly avoids missing Rachel and her Lamborghini.  Granted, he meant to do it.  It's all part of an elaborate scheme to grift Weisz's character. Watch the clip after the jump, and don't try this at home.  Screenjunkies is seeing The Brothers Bloom tonight and will have a full report when we're allowed.  The film officially opens May 29th. A new extended scene from Rian Johnson's upcoming The Brothers Bloom has hit the 'Net, and we have it.  Watch carefully as star Rachel Weisz shows how to deliver a compelling monologue while demonstrating the sort of card trickery reserved for hustlers and extremely talented birthday party magicians. Brothers Bloom - Card Trick Scene - Watch more Funny VideosIf you liked that, check out our Brothers Bloom image gallery after the jump.  The film opens in NY and LA on May 15, then wide on May 29.  More...
