Over the course of movie history, there have been countless examples of animals who can, for some reason or other, talk, and for the most part studio executives believe that if you’re an animal, you must speak in “clever” clichéd dialog that makes the audience want to commit animal cruelty. The number of punch-in-the-face worthy talking animals is frightening, without even getting into the cartoon and CGI realm, so let’s not even go there. But fortunately for our sanity (and this list), some diamonds in the ruff (see what I did there?) do exist. The IESB has posted three behind-the-scenes clips from Disney-Pixar's Up. In total, it's 15 minutes of straight up, fly-on-the-wall making-of goodness, with none of the gloss one might expect from a Disney promo. Yeah that's right. It's 15-minutes of watching a dude sitting in front of a computer while it renders seven frames of the movie. Saw the 3-D trailer for this play in front of Monsters vs. Aliens this weekend. Even without the 3-D, Up looks multi-dimensional. See, that's what I'd be saying if I were brainstorming in a marketing meeting. But since I'm sitting at home in my boxers typing this, I'm just going to say that I can't wait for Up in the same way I can't wait to take a shower. And I reek of last night's indiscretions. $PIXAR\'S UP TRAILER 3 IS... UP!$

Well, Pixar's never let me down, personally, but I think they took a risk this time with having a geriatric main character. Do kids want to see that?

Maybe Disney is capitalizing on kids associating going to Grandpa's house with receiving envelopes of money.

Actually, the whole thing feels like a Westernized version of a Miyazaki film, which makes me want to see it even more. I always felt there was some sort of cultural gap with Studio Ghibli films that made it hard for a Westerner like myself to fully embrace. They looked cool, but I always felt like I was missing something. Like the plot in Princess Mononoke.Up flies into theaters May 29th. More...
