The Top 7 Heroes who Need to DiePOSTED BY Thomas Anderson | THURSDAY FEBRUARY 26 AT 1:09 PST
Surprise! Daphne’s not dead! Surprise! Sylar’s not dead! Surprise! Some dude who you absolutely wished had kicked the bucket is not dead! If there’s one thing the Heroes writers have proven themselves to be incapable of, it’s killing off a character. They don’t know that after the fourth or fifth time you’ve snapped at the audience, “Gotcha!” you really can’t do it a sixth time and expect the same “Oh snap!” reaction. Especially not when said character has had two or three fakeout deaths before. In any case, because I know that these same writers read my Heroes recaps and rants religiously, I have drawn up a list of the seven heroes characters whose presence, though it would be somewhat missed, has really worn out its welcome, and should be disposed of by, at the very least, the end of Volume 5. (And speaking of 5 – did Level 5 seem ridiculously easily escapable to anyone else?) If done away with, these characters will gain far more importance dead than alive. 6. Tracy Strauss |

February 27th, 2009 at 06:27 pm Nowadays, when I watch Heroes, I happily trigger on the fast-foward button
February 27th, 2009 at 06:50 pm how about lets see some powers in actions and not this drawn out soap opera
February 27th, 2009 at 07:29 pm Daphne tops my list. They shouldn't have bothered bringing her back. Also, I've hated Peter ever since he lost his powers. It's like the writers only know how to do 2 things: Give/take powers and kill/unkill characters...repeat.
February 27th, 2009 at 07:29 pm The problem isn't the characters, it's the story arcs in general. The whole "normal people suddenly find themselves with superpowers" thing was cool in the first season, but by now you'd think they would have moved past that. They should've let the main characters become more effective and comfortable in their roles as heroes (like was implied by cool future Hiro's appearance in the first season). Hopefully this volume brings them together, even if they don't go all out justice league.

I know, at some point it seems like the heroes need to stop whining about their powers and actually do something with them. That's why I liked the idea of Ando and Hiro setting up superhero base camp in the beginning of the volume. But alas, that ship has sailed.
February 28th, 2009 at 04:02 pm So sad. Heroes was great in season one. Evolved people realize they have special abilities and have to do something very important. In season 2 and 3 the same outline has been used with the same boring I'm-insecure-about-my-powers theme. Shouldn't the characters be improving in their powers like an athlete, or martial artist? Would it be too much to ask for a character to actually stay dead? The creators have ruined the awe of someone dieing and coming back to life by making it happen so many times.
March 2nd, 2009 at 06:23 pm show was ok season 1 since then pure dihereia juice unwatchable tv
March 17th, 2009 at 10:10 am I agree with the entire list except for Tracy. I think the writers really fucked up with the Niki storyline after season 1, getting rid of Jessica and just having Niki appear a few fleeting times for no important reason. But Tracy was initially important with the Nathan storyline, and I think if the writers invested a bit more time they could keep her on and evolve her character and power.. Claire number 1 to die though. PLEASE.
March 17th, 2009 at 12:53 pm As much as it pains me to say it, you're right. The Heroes writers have put their characters through so much shit by now that they really need to dump a few of the originals (Claire, Hiro, Mohinder, Sylar) and focus on some of the interesting newcomers (Daphne springs to mind). There's still room for a lot of the characters who have been there from the beginning to develop further, but the writers just never do it. The sad thing is that Heroes has the capacity to be so much darker and more gripping than it is now-- I'm envisioning a future in which Claire dies, driving HRG to become an all-out villain, Parkman battling the temptation to use his powers like Maury, etc. All they've delivered so far is Nathan working for Arthur, which hardly cuts it. (They also need to stop re-using powers over and over again, but that's an entirely different rant. We need a "Top Five Overused Superpowers" list, but that's another story...)
