For obvious reasons, a Tupac biopic has been kicking around in one form or another for over a decade, however no producer, director, nor star has been able to put together THE definitive work of the slain rapper's life.

It would seem now that a name long circling the project has finally put rubber to the road, as John Singleton has been announced as director of the upcoming film. It's clearly not a gun-for-hire gig for Singleton, who directed Tupac Shakur in 1993's Poetic Justice. Singleton will produce, rewrite, and direct the film.

Expect a reverential tone from Singleton, who said that when he started working with Tupac, he expected "Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with."
