Magnet Releasing, the genre film-oriented division of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired the rights to release the Jet Li film Warlords. The historical action melodrama was a critical and commercial success in China, and also stars Andy Lau (the dude who played the dude Matt Damon’s character in The Departed was based off of from the original Infernal Affairs) and Takeshi Kaneshiro (for fans of the now-ancient Playstation 2, he was the guy they modeled the main character after in the feudal zombie action game Onimusha). Check out the trailer and and everything you ever wanted to know about Warlords after the jump. Or just post what we failed to mention in the comments section, smartass.

Sometimes seeing the wrong movie at too young an age can really stick with you. Say you saw Child's Play or Nightmare on Elm Street before age twelve. You might have had a hard time getting to sleep or looking at your stuffed animals in the same way after. But what about the movies you're supposed to see, the general interest flicks constantly rerunning on cable that Mom and Dad wouldn't bat at an eye at if they walked by and saw you watching? Often, it is only later that the truly disturbing stuff really shows its face. Sure, it's scary in Pee-Wee's Big Adventure when Large Marge's eyes jump out of their sockets, but what about the movies we saw as kids that are filled with the real? I’m talking about stuff like abortion, suicide, etc. – the kinds of things that can actually happen, things that are so serious they went over your head at the time. Or didn't. Got a great idea for an animated holiday special? Well, Fox is seeking your submissions. From Reuters, the network has announced a contest where animators can submit holiday-inspired short films for cash prizes. The winner will receive a deal with the network that could lead to a show getting on the air. Here's my idea. Nobody steal it, okay? Here are more of your morning headlines…. Head over to The Playlist to read the track listing for Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds soundtrack. It's got more Morricone music than a Spaghetti Western marathon. BUT! None of the Oscar-winner's tracks were recorded for Basterds. Sounds like Quentin's pulling another Kill Bill with this record and finding places to fit classical Morricone cues into a brand new film. Worked well enough for me the last time around; I've still got the Kill Bill soundtracks in heavy rotation. Except for the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique Sound effects. I loved Rian Johnson's first film, Brick* – the neo-hard boiled detective story set amongst high school social circles. It was the one with a bespectacled Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the anachronistic dialogue and the fantastic score by Johnson's brother. I saw it three times in the theaters. Even bought it on DVD. But as I sat down for my screening of Rian Johnson's followup, The Brothers Bloom, a wave of doubt washed over me. No way he can do it again, I thought. Besides, the trailers made it seem like a hodgepodge of styles culled from Johnson's contemporaries. It was Hudson Hawk through the off-kilter lens of Wes Anderson. Not necessarily a bad thing (I'm one of the few with fond memories of Hawk), but it wasn't promising to be a revelation like Brick…

The IESB has posted three behind-the-scenes clips from Disney-Pixar's Up. In total, it's 15 minutes of straight up, fly-on-the-wall making-of goodness, with none of the gloss one might expect from a Disney promo. Yeah that's right. It's 15-minutes of watching a dude sitting in front of a computer while it renders seven frames of the movie. There's also this part where Pete Docter orders a cheese sandwich from the cafeteria.I kid, I kid. It's pretty cool. Watch the other clips after the jump.
Re-cap:This episode begins in the same way that all Southland episodes to date have begun, which is to say that it begins in the middle of what’s going on. Officer Sherman is lying in bed with his arm wrapped around a woman. Our narrator cuts in to inform us that it is a violation of policy for an officer to get involved with a victim. Sherman knows this, but does it anyway. We learn quickly how the girl ended up being a victim, and gradually how she ended up in Sherman’s bed…

The Road Trailer – Watch more Movie Trailers Check out this trailer for Dimension's post-apocalyptic roadtrip comedy, The Road, starring Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. It's all about Viggo trying to win back the girl he mistakenly dumped after junior prom, and… awww heck. I just can't lie like that. It's an adaptation of The Road by Cormac "No Country For Old Men" McCarthy, who isn't exactly known for laughs. Check it out, and then post your comments after the jump, where you'll also find a good spoof of Cormac McCarthy starring actor Luiggi DeBiasse, whose Anton Chigurrh is pretty amazing.
In 1984, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird had a little idea for a comic book, pooled some money together to print a limited run, and inadvertently jump started a seismic shift in entertainment. I'm speaking, of course, about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who are set to once more take pop culture by storm in this, their 25th Anniversary year. We've gotten the announcement that a new live-action feature is in the works for a 2011 release. And just this week, Lionsgate released a brand new four-DVD collector's set of the original TMNT animated series' Season 7. (Each box comes with a cool miniature reproduction of an original Turtle action figure, too.)
/Film reports that despite the upcoming Jekyll film project starring Keanu Reeves, Bad Lieutenant director Abel Ferrara is moving forward with his own retelling of the classic tale. Jekyll and Hyde is set to star Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent as the cursed doctor in a contemporary retelling. Clearly they missed the boat on casting. 50 Cent as Mr. Hyde? They should have cast Mike Tyson. Wouldn't even need no make-up.Check out some more of these morning headlines. Lost Season 5: Hurley's Greatest Hits. (io9) Hanging With Mr. Danza. Sasha Grey is a renaissance woman. Not only does she pay the rent doing what most people do for fun (or babies), she also happens to be an intelligent and ambitious 21 year-old creative. And with her starring performance in Steven Soderbergh’s newest film, The Girlfriend Experience, she’s now officially under the mainstream microscope. Screen Junkies had the good fortune to be invited to the film’s press junket, where Grey discussed such subjects as juggling porn and indie film, the odds of starring alongside teenybopper celebs, and her soon-to-be produced adult script, The F&%k Junkie. If we ever start a porn column on this site, we now have a name.

Hopefully the cover above has dissuaded you from thinking Universal was deigning to adapt the feel-good new age philosophy of the same name*. Nay, IESB.net reports that Universal Pictures has picked up the rights to Dark Horse Comics’ The Secret under the exclusive three-year partnership the two companies entered into in early 2008. (They also partnered on the Hellboy franchise and Timecop.) The four-issue miniseries from 2007 was written by Dark Horse's Mike Richardson, and visualized by Jason Shawn Alexander, an award-winning artist who's worked on Abe Sapien, Queen & Country, and The Escapists. (His official website is pretty badass, and you can check it out here.)The Secret is a coming-of-age tale that focuses on Tommy, a high schooler who attends an exclusive party with the cool kids in order to get closer to his dream girl. Punch-Out Rap – Watch Movie Trailers No, there's not a Punch-Out TV show or film adaptation coming out (though none of us would be surprised about the latter). No, this is the first installment in a series of old-school Nintendo-based music videos entitled "Gamerjamz." Turns out all of Little Mac's rivals are quite the cunning linguists. Not just Don Flamenco.
The '09 summer movies have already begun to arrive, but still to come are some of the biggest, baddest, FX-iest movies around. For robot fans, you can look no further than three of the biggest releases this summer: Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and (if it sticks to the cartoon’s use of robot drones to satisfy the ratings board) G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra. [No, colons are not movie code for “Robot Plot.”] Robots are on the A-List now, but they didn't always have it so good. Here are five cinematic robots that just didn’t work (as they were intended): T-800 from Terminator Program: Kill Sarah Connor, period.
Just in from Movie Web, newcomer Evan Daughtery has been hired to pen the new He-Man film, Grayskull. I know that many of you may be worried but don't fret. He has found a way to take the already gay story of He-Man and make it infinitely gay. In the re-imagining "Adam is a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon the magical world of Eternia. There, Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating magic.” So yeah. Take that magic. No star has been attached yet but I'm pulling for this guy. Jean-Claude Van Damme and Vinnie Jones will team up in a film called Weapon, to be directed by Russell Mulcahy, the man responsible for Highlander and Resident Evil: Extinction. Weapon is the story of rival assassins, sharpshooter Jack Conway (Jones) and knife-wielding Derek Chase (Van Damme), who must blend their skills to foil the head of a drug cartel. A knife man and a gun guy can't get along? Where's the tension? They serve two different purposes, really. I would have much rather heard the following synopsis:
This morning, ComingSoon.net posted a mega gallery of images from the upcoming Disney-Pixar already-looks-like-an-Oscar-win-is-locked feature, Up, featuring the voices of veterans Ed Asner, Christopher Plummer and newcomer Joseph Nagai. We have a bunch of them here, so click, click, and away…
A new clip from Rian Johnson's The Brothers Bloom was released today. In our last installment, we got to see Rachel Weisz's card skills. In this one, we get to see Adrien Brody's lack of bicycling skills, as he flies down a steep decline and narrowly avoids missing Rachel and her Lamborghini. Granted, he meant to do it. It's all part of an elaborate scheme to grift Weisz's character. Watch the clip after the jump, and don't try this at home. Screenjunkies is seeing The Brothers Bloom tonight and will have a full report when we're allowed. The film officially opens May 29th.
Down below we have the trailer for Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, the movie that dares ask 'What would happen if a giant octopus fought a mega shark?' The trailer features the colossal sea creatures attacking submarines, boats, oil rigs, jets, commercial flights, and San Francisco. And Earth's only hope is Lorenzo Lamas. *Sigh* Maybe it's not too late to strike some kind of deal with Giant Octopus. Here are your other morning headlines: Hulu too good to be true. Where The Wild Things Are Scare – Watch more Movie Trailers /Film posted this video of Spike Jonze scaring the ever loving crap out of a child while wearing a Where the Wild Things Are suit that's like the cheap department store Santa equivalent of the Wild Things from the film.
